Road to Memphis

The Devil and Elvis Presley

Just a country boy that combed his hair
Put on a shirt his mother made and he went on the air
And he shook it like a chorus girl
He shook it like a Harlem Queen
He shook it like a midnight rambler, baby
Like he never seen, never seen, like he never seen, never seen
(Elvis Presley Blues, Gillian Welch)

Paul Berner - bass
Michael Moore - sax / clarinet
Ed Verhoeff - guitar (left)
Peter Tiehuis - guitar (right)

This Gillian Welch is not top SQ but I love the song, great lyrics.

For a Gillian with not only good songs but also good SQ this one is recommended; the Harrow and the Harvest.

I listened to the excepts from their new sampler download, and there is 3 new albums on the way (last 3 songs on the sampler). The excepts sounds VERY promising...best of all.. a new Carmen Gomes album ... it does not say anything about release date or am I missing something?

It is here and it was worth waiting for. Sounds even better than the sampler, great deep wide Sound Stage yet so coherent...stunning. They have an introductory price of $11 for the PCM master file at the moment.

Greetings,

I want to thank and appreciate A.S. for posting the tip for Al Gromer Khan. This artist has the inspiration that allows the music to point to the silence. Very few artists do so.

I would add to that space with Peter Gabriel's Passion: Music for The Last Temptation of Christ

My Pleasure :)
Here is one more artist getting his inspiration from silence, especially track 11 ''Krakow'';
"Silence is the most important part of my music making.
Silence is there, foregoing every first note I play.
Silence being the place for inspiration.
Silence which lets me start each piece of music as a child hearing it for the first time.
S
ilence keeping me from automatically following the beaten path."......

Now it is my turn to say thank you!
Great recording;

I haven't listened to any of the more recent CDs, but if you come across any of the older Jazz LPs, ANYTHING on the ECM label is terrific.
