Live Recordings- What is your Best and Worst?

Live recordings are hit or miss. I have a few decent ones and a few surprising ones like a Double Play Donovan's Greatest Hits.

My best sounding one would be Bela Fleck - Live at the Quick. I am surprised people fail to use Victor Wooten to demo speakers.

My worst sounding one would be an oldie and I still like the music, Triumph - Stages. Sounds like an AM radio played in trash can.

    What are yours?

Whenever I'm testing new gear I use Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Live Art" album. The bass line in Sinister Minister is incredible.

Also AC/DC live. Thunderstruck on that album is so nostalgic I can hear differences.

Great thread. Working my way through some of the suggestions that I hadn't heard yet.

One recording that sounds great to me on CD and Blu-ray is Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's.

I saw them live at Stubbs. ca 2005, Stubbs had an audiophile-grade sound system you could hear for blocks. But it was tight. I actually went there for the system when they fresh installed the new stage then. not that big o deal but impressive. Actually it was impresive, and applauded. The band was good. Queens of the Stoners Age played soon after., or they were headliners. It goes so hazy now. Huge stage or maybe looked like it. hmm 25 foot wide? BBQ was passable but I do buy the jars at the supermarket. Mild and pedestrian but okay for dipping. Not gonna look one way or the other but nice to hear about Stubbs. ps. Emo's was where the rock was cookin.

That must have been a heck of a show. The Roots are tight and Matis had some good passion flowing. Thanks for the story!

I believe so. Having listened to both for many years, I think Live is Life is more dynamic, with even more transparency than Jazz at the Pawn Shop. Check out the track 'Drum Boogie' to see what I mean.
