David Sanborn Dies

Saddened by the news of David Sanborn's passing. Saw him perform many times in the 80's & 90's while living in New York. A fine musician and a happy humble person.
 
Wow, I now have to get my news from AS. I have news aps and watch news and I just now learned of his death. That's a shame, I thought he was more respected or well known than that.

Of the solo material I've heard I was not the biggest fan but he did some killer work on other people's albums and what a list. My favorite is the solo he did on Michael Stanley Band's song Let's Get The Show On The Road. He played on a few of their songs.

A local to Chicago musician Frank Catalano was under David's wing. Some of you may have caught him one year in concert at Axpona.
 
RIP Mr. Sanborn. Your 80s fusion albums were like a gateway to my appreciation of classic jazz.
 
A couple of his more well-known pop solos on other artist records..."How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" by James Taylor, and "Young Americans" by David Bowie. He had polio as a child and was urged to learn a woodwind instrument to help with his lungs...spent teen years sitting in with bands in St Louis and went on to great success and acclaim.

We saw him in the last couple of years at Jazz St Louis, a great small venue. Very humble, humorous, talented.
 
This is sad news. David was a giant. Saw him at the Blue Note and he was phenomenal. Got the opportunity to talk with him after the show. Super nice guy. He will be missed.
