They do actually put the various taps on their amplifiers with autoformers. The guys at McIntosh said that it would not damage anything to try the various taps and that some people in some systems do notice a nice improvement. To me, in my system it actually made a very nice audible difference.

Not super light, but my McIntosh is 150wpc. Conservative rated. It is cool as a cucumber. But it is 75 pounds :(.
