    Rega RP8 (RB808) & Denon LP103

There is literally no place to look at audio gear here. You would think a town with the local population of over 700,000 would be able to support a decent store. Too bad the only one that was here ended up being a criminal. I do miss our audio club back in California. I have not met anyone...

    Rega RP8 (RB808) & Denon LP103

My biggest concern with trying new cartridges on the Rega is that the wires are so thin and fragile coming out of the arm tube. I am afraid to switch them too much. Unlike my Technics with the interchangeable head shell. My Technics is a more basic lower model than yours, but I love that you...

    Rega RP8 (RB808) & Denon LP103

I have been thinking about changing my Rega Ania Pro cartridge and am hoping for some input. I have read a lot of really good things about the Denon LP103 and LP103R but am a bit unclear about if one will work properly with my Rega RB808 that is on my Rega RP8 table. Paul Seymor raved about...

What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

Back in the day most every brand sold themselves against McIntosh as cheaper and sounding as good or better. And I tried a lot of different ones, at one time owning McIntosh tube pre-tuner-amp, and then C26 pre with the MC225... that little 25 WPC amp powered my KEF speakers better than any...

What are you listening to tonight ?

I like that this is finally being re-released. I have heard rumors about this album for year. I just recently got the new digital download (vinyl not out yet). It is quite good and shows the promise these two future stars had. But honestly, I expected a little bit more (a bit too much of...

What type of amps do you use? Tube? Solid State? Both? Hybrid?

I really love McIntosh gear. I know people were talking about them being sold again, however the one consistent thing is McIntosh gear remains the same quality, built in Binghamton no matter who the new owners are. This has been the case for a very long time. Also growing up in the shadow of...

Very nice, love Burmester... I had to make the decision.... my house or my audio system :).

Looking for suggestions for a <$3K CD transport

I have been into semi-high-end audio for 40+ years but do not enjoy streaming either. I do love my digital setup and copy all of my digital albums to my PC server. I recently sold my Oppo because I no longer have a need of ripping my SACDs and found that it had sat in my rack for almost a year...

    Amplifier chips

Things have definitely changed a lot. Back in the day the differences where more clear cut. With tech changes, etc., the differences are not so clear any more.

    Amplifier chips

I managed an audio store back then. The "chip" amplifiers were designed to simply be lower priced. In general, companies such as Sony, etc., used chips to make it cheaper. Companies like Yamaha made a lot better amplifier using discrete circuits. It was easy to show and easy to hear the...

    AP Mastering on DAC's

The real issue comes down to neophytes versus long term audiophiles. The Objectivists tend to quote data and "results" from "blind listening" using normal off the street people and/or mostly neophytes. However, audiophiles have learned from listening to high end gear over some time, most of us...

    ANOTHER ONE bites the dust...

That was my belief also. This is why I was surprised when I read on their website that burn in is not necessary. I can say in no uncertain terms they definitely benefit from a break-in period.

    ANOTHER ONE bites the dust...

Harbeth claims that their speakers will sound as good out of the box until their final day. No break in required. However, with my new Harbeth I noticed a distinct improvement after about 3-weeks. It surprised me actually because I did not plan on any burn period for them.

    ANOTHER ONE bites the dust...

Sure, back in the day. They have not been around for how long now :)? Used to like Hafler, and other American kits, but not options any more. There are other American made high end gear, but they are certainly in the same price ranged as McIntosh. Schiit is a good alternative. Of course, in...

    ANOTHER ONE bites the dust...

When I can is the key. I own McIntosh (although nothing is 100% made in America) they are about as close as it gets for electronics. But for speakers I have always preferred the Bristish designs/sound and Harbeth is about as British as you get.
