I can answer my own question after same day assistance from Esoteric. When the update manual says "make sure the unit is turned off" (at the start of the update process) that does not mean unplugged from the wall. You still need to have the power cable plugged in despite the unit being turned...

Is anybody having issues with the N1T I/F v1.10c update? At step 5 on the uploader the main unit display is supposed to go off and the CLOCK indicator will be flashing. My CLOCK indicator is not flashing, it's on steady. It's not behaving as per the instructions.
