What's Next for the Magico M Series?

Following the introduction of the M9, what do folks think will be Magico's most likely next move in the M Series product line? There seem to be a few logical possibilities. Both the M3 and M6 getting longer in the tooth, and while these remain wonderful speakers in both cases, the M3s cabinet and driver design lag well behind that of the M6, M2 and M9, and the M6 driver designs have been surpassed by the M9 and even (in some respects) the A5. Accordingly, updates of one or both of these models would seem to make sense at some point in (the not too distant?) future.

In addition, there are now pretty decent sized gaps in the price points between the M3 and M6, and between the M6 and the M9. Will we see the introduction of a new M5 and/or an M7 (or M8)? What about an M1 stand mounted monitor?

Personally, as the owner of M Pros, I would be very interested in either an updated M6 or a new M5, but would be interested to hear what others would like to see, or think we will see, next from Magico in its M Series product line. Whatever it ends up being, Alon and team are to be commended for their relentless pursuit of improvements in sealed box dynamic speaker design, even when it means disrupting their existing products.

IMO the S series is even more 'due' than the M.

Re: What's Next for the Magico M Series?

I think S series only justifies its existence now for owners who want a speaker in a color other than black. There will be no upgrade path for M3 in the way Q7 was upgraded to Mk2. The re-incarnation of M3 will be a whole new design. I don't see a purpose for M5 because in a space where M3 starts to run out of steam the M6 picks up perfectly. There is no gap there which needs filling with another model speaker. Does an M1 have any merit? To answer that question you need to look at the sales history of Q1. I don't think Q1 was a big seller. The purpose for M2 was just a more affordable option for those folks who want bragging rights for an M speaker but can't quite pony up the dollars required for M3. For those who can't afford M6 then M3 is good enough. M2/3/6/9 is probably the full set.

I disagree. I like my bronze S3 MkII, but color is just a side benefit. The S series fills a big price gap between the A and M, has its own sound (a bit warmer IMO), and is more attractive (not just color) than the A.

S is definitely more attractive than A, in any color skin you might choose. But from a performance perspective I'd really like to compare the cheaper A5 vs S3Mk2 side by side. Surely it would have to be close.

Exactly why the S series needs to be updated.

Re: What's Next for the Magico M Series?

The problem with updating S will be the risk of reducing sales of M. The only S not yet updated is S7. Maybe that will be next.

The S series, specifically the S3, needs an update for sure. The M series is fine for now. Lots of great choices.

Re: What's Next for the Magico M Series?

But S3 is already Mk2. As far as I know Magico has never done a Mk3 anything. Once we have S7Mk2 then S has nowhere else to go. They would have to start a whole new mid-tier series.
Oh yeah, for something completely unrelated, my D1X is being built right now in Japan!!!

Great! But they haven’t been able to make it for nearly 2 years due to technical difficulties.

Congrats on the D1X! Killer machine.

My dealer has a customer who just traded his Halcro dm10/dm88 (which I currently own) for C1X/M1X. Dealer reports customer reports the Grandioso combo blows the Halcro out of the water. I find that hard to believe, but it has pegged my curiosity about C1X. BTW I'm listening to Spotify on my N-01 right now and it's stunning.

Re: What's Next for the Magico M Series?

The logical order in my opinion would be:

    1. M3
    2. M6
    3. M2
    4. M9

All speakers should get carbon-graphene aluminun honeycomb sandwich drivers and carbon aluminum honeycomb cabinet sides (saves money) and updated crossovers. The M3 needs a monocoque cabinet like the rest of the line.

Re: What's Next for the Magico M Series?

Which is why I say you can't Mk2 upgrade existing M3, too much work is involved. It does need the M9 enclosure technology and obviously you can't retrofit that to the existing speaker. And I can't see Magico doing a half baked upgrade with drivers and crossover only. Q7 enclosure had been taken as far as the Q-platform could go. The only option they had was new drivers and crossover. So Q7 owners could have their speakers upgraded to MK2 spec.
