With the majority of investments in various retirement accounts market fluctuations are just paper losses and largely unrealized. True audiophiles can't let such swings impact their system upgrades!
 
For those of us who have already retired, the recent market fluctuations are not simply “paper losses”.
 
+1 Got out of the "Rat Race" over a decade ago at 45. 200K out the door in a few months hurts!! LOL Hope for a rapid recovery so I can buy some new toys from Mike like a D-08U and be on my way to becoming a "true audiophile". :)

So let me get this straight....My K-01X at the time of purchase was a 5th Level Esoteric disc spinner?? Can you enlighten me on the 4 players above it. I can only think of 2 at the time.

1st: K1
2nd: K-01Xs
3rd:K-01X
4th: K-03Xs
5th: K-03X
Hence, what I said, you'd think a flagship Luxman (of today) would trump a 5th level Esoteric.
 
AK4497EQ vs AK4495S is clearly a different level of performance, whatever the minimal price difference between the chips.
 
They've stopped using it in the new model flagship units, but there has been no announcement that they will stop using it in the lower level models.
 
Don't worry....its coming. Same old Esoteric propaganda. The next cycle of "lower models" will feature the trickle down, new fangled, blah blah blah that the Grandioso has. SOS every 2 years so people keep chasing the next upgrade cycle.

Glad I just dropped them. Financial woes tied to their parent Gibson guitars and crazy constant upgraditis for obvious cash grab reasons, which they tried to force on dealers too, was enough for me to part ways.

T+A, Luxman, among others, make fine CD/SACD players thank you very much.
 
I think Luxman may be the way I want to go for cd/sacd - any news or rumors being made in black?

Layman differences between the 05, 06 and 08?

I just purchased a Luxman M800a, my dream amp. I already own an Esoteric
K-03x Anniversary Edition in Black, one of 5 in the US, and someone within 10 miles of me is selling D-08u. Talking to Bob Harley of TAS and he thought it would be more of a sideways trade if that. But man, I love Luxman gear. If anyone has heard the two, I’d love to hear your thoughts? Please advise, thanks.


You can add a wordclock like the GRIMM CC1....It's all change....

Highly doubtful that going from K-03X to D-08u would be a sideways move. This would be a significant upgrade for you. A more reasonable analysis of a sideways move would be K-01X to D-08u.

Totally agree. They are very different sonically. The Luxman has a very analog sound. Just gorgeous.

Has anyone listened to both D-08u and K-03Xs/K-01Xs? Please share your thoughts. I still undecided whether I should acquire D-08u or K-03Xs. I have never listened to any Luxman or Esoteric. From what I read here, I think I would pick Luxman for its analog sound.

Please, notes that Luxman can not have now the mechanism of the SACD/CD.
So if Luxman must be repair product after 10 year's....I think it will very difficult.
I have the K-03XS and have post some informations about the sound of this one...
