As soon as we finalize the packaging, distribution schemes and logistics. We already have the first batch of actual hardware ready.
All past and present models of Lumin network players and transports are supported.
Price is subject to change, tentatively USD2xx.
    Roon compatible.

The remote control package comes with a USB IR receiver in the shape of a half sphere, for those who wonder how existing Lumin models can be operated. For Lumin X1 and T2, since there is only one USB port, if you plug in the USB IR receiver, you do not have another port for USB storage or USB DAC output. For the M1, if you already use one USB port for the RCA input adapter, using the other USB port for the USB IR receiver would meaning leaving no USB port for USB storage. There should be some USB hub that could workaround this limitation, but I cannot guarantee that because different hubs do behave differently.

The remote has buttons for volume up / down / mute / play / pause / next / previous / shuffle / repeat / standby. For using these remote functions, you don’t need to pick up the iPad.

Anything other than these (e.g. playlist adjustment) will still require the iPad.

This is great! Will the IR receiver be sold separately, or will any USB IR receiver work? For people who want to use their universal remotes or control systems.

The remote and the USB IR receiver are sold as a single package, not separately. Random USB IR receivers are unlikely to work.

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

200 USD for a Lumin remote seems to be a high price for a product already bought at >2000USD
you should give these remotes as gifts for Lumin owners!
first thing I was worried about when I bought a Lumin is the absence of remote but I figured it out before buying:

on my side I did not wait for this
I became a geek and I installed a program on my NAS making me use my Logitech Harmony control Roon and then of course Lumin playing Roon. And of course as a bonus, I have only one remote to rule them all (my Rooning Lumin, my Amp, my lights, my DAC, my TV, my future PS5 and everything). And I can set up all the buttons exactly as I wish, for instance, I have a button dedicated to directly play Tidal's "Grown Jazz" playlist on my Lumin, another button to launch "La Sélection Jazz de Qobuz" and etc..

So please think, you need some efforts on IT but Remote control can be more enjoyable at a less expensive price (of course if you already have the existing right setup)

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

$200 seems VERY reasonable to me, especially for such a beautiful, elegant looking remote.

Our MBL remote is $750 and it looks like this:

I think it’s great that Lumin listened to their customers and moved quickly to provide what looks to be a really elegant remote. A couple hundred dollars for this remote seems very reasonable.

Moving forward, Lumin should communicate if they will be including the remote with the players or if it will remain an accessory.

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

I don’t know MBL but I know no fool ready to buy this for 750usd

My harmony remote for 150usd (and again it controls everything: My Rooning Lumin, my amp, my dac, my tv, my lights, my ps4, just one remote for everything) looks very nice for a remote. Just look into internet for Harmony Smart Hub but i am sure you know what I am talking about

And my point here is that it is shocking that a Lumin device costing 2k$, 5k$ or even 13k$ does not have a remote control already included for its price. So in order to correct an initial error (a device like this without remote) they should give it for free

That’s a crazy idea. Have you seen the incredible support Lumin gives for free? Do you think Peter does this because he’s bored? Lumin makes Peter available to all of us FOR FREE.

When you bought the Lumin, it didn’t have a remote and you knew that. The fact they are adding a gorgeous remote now at ONLY $200 is an awesome move. I bet you, seriously, they aren’t making much on that remote - if anything.

Think of all the other stuff Lumin has done for FREE. They covered the whole nut of Roon certification and MQA certification.

I agree with you Mike. Even though I do not currently own any Lumin products I read most of the post in the Lumin threads and often pick up valuable suggestions from Peter and insight into digital audio. I do not remember Peter ever selling Lumin or denigrating competitive products.

I think the Lumin remote at $2xx is very reasonable.

Thinking about how much I would use the remote. Probably A LOT if running the Lumin directly to the amps. Maybe a bit less so with the preamp, whose remote handles volume up/down and mute.

But the new Lumin remote's ability to pause (instead of mute) when the phone rings is huge for me, and will surely be the feature that gets me off the fence and placing that order.

We are really not making money on this, after factoring in the various costs and shipping. (If I were not in this business, I'd not believe this either, but that is the truth.) The Made-in-Austria remote and its associated receiver are unbelievably expensive for a remote. I was shocked when I heard the cost.

In the firmware we made a choice as to whether to protect our own hardware accessories, or to make it easier for someone else to make a compatible one if they really want to. We chose the latter because this is meant to fill a functional gap rather than to make money, even though I do not encourage the use of third party accessories. That being said, we reserve the right to change this without notice.

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

I like Ritmo's idea of a video for the remote. I believe the assumption that the remote is only Leedh controlled is not yet confirmed by Peter. I agree with JCS123 that the value and usage is very high if running direct to amps rather than with a preamp, which would have its own volume and mute controls, but other functions on the remote still have merit, even with preamp. I highly applaud Peter and Lumin for very speedily finding a solution to the ask made here for a remote. While I have gotten used to using iPhone or iPad with my X1, I like physical remotes. I would like to know more on this remote.

I, as so many here, very much value Peter's contributions.

The remote will work regardless of whether digital volume (Leedh or original) in Lumin is used.

I thought as much Peter. $200 is very fair, I frankly thought it would be at least $500. Your ordering much smaller quantities than say Sony or Logitech, so your costs are higher. The remote looks gorgeous. Can’t wait to see it in person. Well done!

As nice as it looks, I won’t be getting one. There is no way I’m parting ways with my MBL 6010D Pre. But, I can see the value for those that wish to skip a pre and go directly to amps.

I am curious how many people using a preamp have tried Leed h? If you tried it, what were your thoughts and did you notice any changes in the sound quality? On some music tracks, I thought Leed h was slightly clearer. On others, hard to tell. I am using a Classe Sigma SSP in digital bypass mode. Digital processing is turned off so I am getting the full analog signal.

    I have a T2 connected to a C900 Luxman preamp
Didn’t make an A/B comparison but my impression is that the last firmware with the Leedh control is a little more “lean”
With the previous version the bass was more present at least in my system and the highs more clear...
Maybe is just my impression in my system
I feel the sound is more “musical”(?) or less analytical...
Either way, very happy with the results
Analogue source: Kuzma R, 4 Point 11’, ZYX Ultimate Omega GH
Digital source: Lumin T2, NUC8 i5, Roon Rock, network connected.
    Amplification:Zesto Andros 1.2, Luxman C-900u, Karan KAS 400.
    Speakers: Magico S3 MKII
Cables: interconect: Neotech RCA NEI 3001 (phono to preamp) all other Nordost Heimdall II XLR speakers: Nordost Heimdall II
    Power:
ISOL 8 Minisub Wave, main Neotech NEP 3001, all other DH labs.

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

Thanks for the reply. Your last sentence confused me slightly. Are you saying that when using Leedh, it gives you a more lean and analytic sound, and when using the preamp (not using Leedh volume control) you have more bass, clearer highs and is more musical?

    Re: Lumin Remote Control

Sorry' I was not clear enough
The T2 is connected to the C900 and my impressions are about the new firmware (that includes the Leedh's function)
and not the Leedh volume control.
    My settings are "volume fixed"
In my system, I think that with the new firmware Lumin took the sound a little less "sparkling"
I feel the sound more round and withe less bottom extension

As you wrote, I do feel a better sound with the previous firmware (even always the T2 was connected to the preamp)

I couldn't compared it A/B, but after more than a year this was the first time I noticed a sound change with a new firmware
Maybe is only my impression in my system...
I hope to be more clear now (my apologies, English is not my mother tongue)

Maybe Peter or other users can write about this
Analogue source: Kuzma R, 4 Point 11’, ZYX Ultimate Omega GH
Digital source: Lumin T2, NUC8 i5, Roon Rock, network connected.

From my personal experience, it really depends on the preamp that you are using and also the impedance / input design of the power amplifier. Always good to have a choice IMHO.

Well said. Component matching is important.
I've found the Leedh volume control has added a better "flow" to the music and an overall sonic improvement.
I still use a preamp to "color" the sound to my liking and have the volume set at unity gain.
As for the new remote, I don't know if I would really use it as I am not dissatisfied with using my I-Pad as a controller.
As I stream only, my I-Pad is always present when listening. The only issue with this arrangement is the Leedh volume slide and up/down
functions are rather small and slightly quirky. My 2 cents
    My System:
    Lumin A-1
    Joule Electra LA150 Signature Plus
    Pass XA30.5
    Von Schweikert VR4Jr MkIII Anniversary
    18" Open Baffle Subs
Cables: Teo Audio, Cerious Tech, Fusion Audio.
Two dedicated 20 Amp circuits. Shunyata Hydra. EP2050
DIY bass traps and custom curved diffusors.

    wklie,

So, I have a 8TB Hard Drive attached to my Lumin X1 via the usb port. Are you saying that I can no longer use my Hard Drive if I use the Remote?

The best way is to plug the HDD to a computer or NAS running free MinimServer.

If you really don't want to do that, you may try using a USB hub.
