LUMIN P1 Mini

P1 MINI has these advantages over T3:

1. Digital / analog inputs
2. Femto clock
3. Linear power supply
4. Fiber network (SFP)
5. Included physical remote (primarily for input selection and volume adjustment), which is an optional purchase for other non-P1 Lumin models

Most importantly - not obvious from the specifications, P1 MINI is meant to be priced competitively to bring our flagship level features to a medium price point, in the same way that we put our latest technology and DAC design essence in D3 at a low price point.

Just read the landing page describing the P1 Mini's product design, functionality and features.

Wow!

Key standouts for me:

Main features
Five inputs including USB, HDMI, SPDIF and Analogue
HDMI with stereo input + AV Passthrough & ARC
Dual DAC ES9028PRO
DSD512 & PCM384
Femto Clock System with precision FPGA distribution
New internal toroidal linear power supply
Dual Network with Optical Fibre Network support
LEEDH Processing lossless volume control

VERY impressive, Peter. Please extend my Congratulations to Nelson, Angus, and the rest of the team.

Lumin continues to hit home runs "out of the ballpark". 👌 👊 💪

I could teach a DFSS course using Lumin as an exemplar of a company that consistently operates at a very high-level of execution with respect to very well understanding customer needs & requirements, developing innovative, very well-designed and specified products, and thereby consistently provide excellent Value* for customers.

*-where Value=Quality/Price.

Courtesy of the Polish distributor, yesterday we had the honor and pleasure of hosting the Lumin team (Angus and Li) with the P1 Mini in our listening room. During the listening, we compared the P1 Mini in the role of streamer (with XLR outputs) and only transport with ZenSati sILENzIO USB cable and dCS as DAC.

Very cool! Nice to see that Angus was there, I met him at AXPONA last year (2023); great guy and truly a gifted audio engineer and designer. Also, it's so cool that the P1 Mini supports optical...in my experience, that is the best way to go to connect to an upstream music server.

Also, the photos are very good as well; very sharp and on the whole, well-lit.

Question for you: what is the platform that the P1 Mini is resting on?

Also, as the P1 Mini is also a DAC and preamplifier, not just a streamer, will you also evaluate it for those applications, as well? I own a P1, and it's one of finest DACs and preamps I've ever used and more importantly, have ever heard. Would love to read a review of the P1 Mini for these functions as well as using it solely as a streamer.

So, what were the gang's impressions from listening to the P1 Mini? Love to hear what the guys thought.

Cheers and thanks for posting these.

THnX. P1 Mini sounds very nice - with good resolution and musicality, but with external DAC from higher level offers much more ... everything ;-)

Hello! I have a question, could anyone help me find the answer to it? If I buy a P1 Mini, can I connect it to a Integrated amplifier and use it *only* as a streamer or do I have to use it as a pre amplifier and streamer?
Thank you very much

Yes, certainly. You don't have to use the other inputs or volume control if you don't want to.

In fact P1 Mini is the ideal upgrade from T3 T2 T1 D3 D2 D1 A1 S1.

In effetti P1 Mini è l'aggiornamento ideale da T3 T2 T1 D3 D2 D1 A1 S1.
Hi Peter, I'm new here. I've been reading you for years but I've only signed up now. I had a Lumin A1 at home for many years... I loved it, hours of magnificent music. Then a friend asked me and I sold it to him. I switched to Esoteric N05XD, a few shades more or less, but how much money. I'm selling it to buy new speakers. I would like to go back to Lumin and I still think about Lumin A1... How is it possible that today a T2 T3 P1 are better than an A1 or even S1? Inside there is much less, the chassis is not built like that of A1 S1. Especially A1 and S1 have an external power supply, Lundhall... Now I read that P1 mini is an ideal update for S1 A1 T1 T2 T3 D1 2 3... Why then in the used an S1 costs twice as much as a T2 and much more than a T3?

I'm not talking about inputs, outputs, etc. I'm talking about absolute performance? Streamer, music, stop. Which one do you recommend? P1 mini, T3 or A1 S1 are still very valid and ok? (I don't have a budget for new P1 mini or T3 yet)

Thank you for your honest answer!

P1 Mini is better due to more advanced analog output stage, DAC chips, femtoclock, improved design, better processor, and last but not least, toroidal power supply, etc. It is priced much lower due to cutting cost from chassis and Lundahl transformers, and our marketing strategy in today's economy.

Thanks Peter, two questions for you if possible.

1) in practice P1 Mini "contains" the dac/streamer part of a T3 but then implements better with all the things you mentioned and that have been improved. It loses a better chassis (T3). In total the result should be clearly in favor of P1 Mini vs T3, I am referring to the use as a streamer. Is there a better sound? Right? If so, the line and the typical design of Lumin, from A1 to T3, with P1 mini you get lost, you have to give up aesthetics, and it's a great shame for me, I loved Lumin A1...

__

2) Have you ever thought about giving Lumin users the opportunity to add an external power supply (e.g. X1) at a later time on "all models" that could benefit from it? As it was before with A1, S1 now you could think for P1 Mini, T3 etc. Another input that bypasses internal power supply or implements it and you buy external power supply later with increased performance... A possibility of purchase and future upgrade...
