I listened to Kharma Elegance DB11-S at Axpona 2018 with Nagra HD components. They are amongst the most musical speakers I’ve listened to at any price. Their MSRP is $54,000. In the world of high-end audio, they are one of the best values out there.

IME & IMO, the DB9s & 11s are among those at the top - along with the Vivid G1 Spirits - of those loudspeakers with an especially high ME - Musical Engagement - factor.

I've not heard the latest top Magicos however...

What the top Kharmas & G1 Spirits finally achieve - and hopefully a few others that I've not yet heard - is to simply never be boring...

Of course that does assume proper set-up... .

And Mike, unlike so many others - can - and will - do it...
DPT4ME - Dynamics, Presence & Tone for Musical Engagement; MBP (3) - stripped down for music only; Shunyata Omega & Sigma USBs; ISO REGEN w/short Curious USB links; Berkeley Alpha USB; Aqua La Scala II Optologic DAC; Schiit Yggdrasil - fully updated; Ayre Codex dac - updated; Pass Labs INT-60 integrated amp; Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE-2 preamp, Quicksilver Mono 120 amps w/Tung-Sol KT150s; Quicksilver Mid Mono amps w/Gold Lion KT77s; Fyne Audio 703s; Symposium Svelte Plus & Ultra Platforms; REL S-812 subwoofers; Duelund DCA12GA speaker cables; AV Room Service EVPs, Stein Music Harmonizers, Duelund DCA16GA & 20GA ICs; Shunyata Denali 6000S/V2; Tripp Lite PCs; Wyred 4 Sound power cords; AudioDharma cable cooker; dedicated custom room; various GIK & ASC room treatments; etc.

    Re: DB9 Signature

Good morning everyone! I apologize for not posting yesterday , I was a little too busy.

I'm trying to put into words what I've been hearing with the new system. I can't really review the Kharmas by themselves because my Gryphon is also new in the setup along with the Audioquest Willian Tell speaker cables. So I guess I'll just try to describe what my wife and I are experiencing.

The first thing that stands out is a clarity that allows us to hear more instruments in very familiar recordings, more than we've ever hear before. I'm using the word "Clarity" to describe the lack of any type of background hash, or smearing that we sometimes hear. As a result, vocals are much more realistic and lyrics are more understandable than I've previously experienced.

This is while they are still breaking in, which is a good sign. The bass is very good, occasionally a little boomy, but most other times tight and punchy. The midrange is nothing short of astounding! Again, I'm sure that's why the vocals are so amazing. I mentioned before that when I was listening to the DB9's at Mike's place that this has to be maybe the best Beryllium tweeter in the world today. It certainly is the best I've ever heard. The high frequencies are so clear and extended, completely natural sounding. There is absolutely no glare or sharpness.

The thing about these speakers that makes them truly special is the way they pull you in.......and won't let go. I know that this is mostly the speakers here because I had the same experience at Mike's place both times I was there listening with different components. I'm having a hard time stopping a listening session to do other things. In the past when describing a speaker I would comment that the speaker I was listening to had a complete lack of fatigue, which I consider a great compliment. This isn't just a lack of fatigue, it's a new kind of addiction! I'm just more involved in the music.

The one thing that may hold me back from getting the ultimate from the Kharmas is that I won't be able to pull the speakers as far into the room as I did with the Salon 2's. I moved my system from our main living area to the downstairs living area because my darling wife asked me if it would be ok to do so when I still had the Salons. Well, we never went down there to listen. So after a year she missed music so much we bought this new system to once again be in our main living area, with the caveat that the speakers wouldn't be pulled out into the room like the Salons were. It's a small sacrifice considering we once again have music where we live. It's nice to listen again while I'm in the kitchen cooking and enjoying cocktails.

I'll give more updates as they get more hours on them, and if you have any questions.

    Re: DB9 Signature

Great update, thank you. My last two houses had dedicated spaces for listening. This time around we made the same decision as you and put the system in the main living space. It has taken some work to get things situated sonically and visually, but to be able to listen to music all the time is a real treat. Enjoy your new toys and we would love to see some pics of those beautiful speakers!

Glad you and Susan are happy with the new system. In the past, when visiting you guys, Carmen and I have always enjoyed having a cocktail and enjoying a nice dinner in your home while the music is playing in the family room. Always a fantastic experience and one that we look forward to in the near future.

PS - In addition to Mark being a "musicphile", he's a great golfer and an even better chef.

So after a year she missed music so much we bought this new system to once again be in our main living area, with the caveat that the speakers wouldn't be pulled out into the room like the Salons were.

There is a simple & inexpensive compromise step that you can take that not only unlocks Musical Harmony, but also Domestic Harmony...

DPT4ME - Dynamics, Presence & Tone for Musical Engagement; MBP (3) - stripped down for music only; Shunyata Omega & Sigma USBs; ISO REGEN w/short Curious USB links; Berkeley Alpha USB; Aqua La Scala II Optologic DAC; Schiit Yggdrasil - fully updated; Ayre Codex dac - updated; Pass Labs INT-60 integrated amp; Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE-2 preamp, Quicksilver Mono 120 amps w/Tung-Sol KT150s; Quicksilver Mid Mono amps w/Gold Lion KT77s; Fyne Audio 703s; Symposium Svelte Plus & Ultra Platforms; REL S-812 subwoofers; Duelund DCA12GA speaker cables; AV Room Service EVPs, Stein Music Harmonizers, Duelund DCA16GA & 20GA ICs; Shunyata Denali 6000S/V2; Tripp Lite PCs; Wyred 4 Sound power cords; AudioDharma cable cooker; dedicated custom room; various GIK & ASC room treatments; etc.

    Re: DB9 Signature

Congratulations on the Kharma's. Wonderful speakers, they look great in your room.

I've had previous generation CRM 2.3ce for the past decade. My experience in a couple of different rooms suggests placement makes the difference between good, really good and great. Centimetres in all planes make all the difference, so do experiment once they're run in. When you get it right a walk in soundstage appears in front of you delivering everything your electronics can muster.

Hope you get many years of enjoyment

    Hi Mark,

That is a great looking room. The DB9-S really integrate well into the living room without visually dominating it. Big sound and a moderate size. I like my Vandy’s for much the same reason.

    Congrats and enjoy!

Rance, your speakers are going through final testing this week and then Polish and prep for shipping.

This is your actual speaker going through testing.

    Fantastic!
And it is a huge benefit for the listening room to be in the main living room. My setup too is also in my main living room and between my wife and I, it almost always turned on. I’m getting my moneys worth thats for sure lol! Congrats again!

Beautiful listening room and speakers, although I feel you should have considered Jay's McLaren Orange Wilson XLF's for the ultimate decorative touch...

The profile of these speakers is so elegant. They appear designed to be lived with, rather than looking like some speculatively uber engineered design meant to dominate a designated listening room. I need to hear them.
