Esoteric N-01XD

Please describe your network and how everything are connected together.

Please power off everything on your network including Roon Core, Esoteric, iPad, any network switches or access points. Power cycle the WiFi router, wait for 5 minutes, then power up everything else.

If you still get drop outs, please state the source of your music - Tidal, Qobuz, local music inside Roon Core, NAS, or anything else, and the sample rate, and format - PCM / MQA / DSD.

Peter, did you see the other comments about the USB update? It appears that after the update, some of us still see the "M" version, not "V".

Do you have any contacts you can ask about this? Maybe we didn't really update it, even though it said successful?

I am still experiencing dropouts, and I have isolated the cause to tidal mqa. I don't experience the problem with qobuz flac or local NAS flac. I don't believe I've ever experienced it with tidal non mqa, but I am not 100% sure.

Anybody else?

This is with roon, and the network input. Setting for mqa is "decoder and renderer". I will try a different setting and see if it gets better.

Some things to try:
1. In Roon set it to Renderer Only and make sure you're not doing multi-zone playback
2. Instead of using Roon, try playing with Esoteric Sound Stream app.

Peter, thanks... I did try setting it to renderer only and that seems to solve the problem. Still playing with it.

Hi Peter, I noticed that there was recently a network firmware upgrade to 14.0. I am curious what changed? I have not been able to find release notes for any of the network firmware updates, and I am wondering if you have a link, or can shed some light on what has been changing in the network firmware in terms of performance, if any.

thanks!

I had the same question for @wklie

No new features. Just a maintenance release for production purpose. The MQA decoder for network input is updated.

If used on N-03T, it adds native DSD support for Luxman D-10X, but I'm still waiting for anyone to confirm whether it works or not.

Hi team,

One question. Is the N-01XD supposed to benefit from an external 10 Mhz clock when USB input is used (streaming from Roon but that’s beside the point)?

Thank you.

Regards,
Bernard

Yes. Get the Mutec Ref 10 clock (or even better - Ref 10 Limited) clock. MUCH better than the Esoteric clocks.

Thank you very much. Your answers are much appreciated!

I used to clock mine with a Cybershaft OP21A with ethernet input without problem. I never used the USB input.

Then sold it and the buyer is facing issues clocking his USB input with an older Esoteric clock.

Hence my question.

Could it be firmware dependent?

Any Esoteric user here tried the Tidal Connect playback via Tidal app? If you heard a SQ difference against native app Tidal playback or Roon Tidal playback, please report.

Will do later tonight and share results here.

Peter,

Tidal Connect working perfectly fine in with my Esoteric N01-XD. Actually, sounds terrific!
