Esoteric N-01XD

very very cool. painful price, on the other hand you get one of the most satisfaying music systems available.
my dealer who has access to basicly anything choosed this one for himself. loved it myself every time, utterly beautiful.

Thank you for your kind words. Makes me feel better about this insane purchase I just made :).

What is the rest of your dealer's system?

N-01XD owners be aware there is a new firmware recently available to upgrade.

Yes, I installed this yesterday. Unfortunately it's not the Roon certification that I am praying for :)

Supposedly this gives volume control, but I don't see how to make it work. No matter, I don't plan to use it, was just curious.

From their webpage:
We are pleased to announce that the N-01XD I/F Firmware V1.20 is now available.
Please see download page.

Supports new volume control specifications
Add setting for Network display mode and Version display
Improve some performances and minor bug fix

Since Lumin did much of the software for this unit, wonder if the referenced volume control implementation is Leedh?

I believe Lumin is only involved with the network bridge with Esoteric. Maybe Peter Lie can confirm that. Tagging @wklie

As far as the Roon Ready is concerned, this will come with a network firmware upgrade. Not the current I/F upgrade (Heck I don’t even know what “I/F” means in English).

The “NET firmware “ I attached here

I know! I was wondering what it means, too.

According to the updated manual, network module updates (like Roon?) are possible using the app.

I/F means interface.

Cheers,
Bernard

Ok, but that is still vague. It's not the network or usb interface, so what is it?

Anyway, I mentioned earlier that the manual says we can update the network interface through the app. I hope that is true, but it's a bit odd to have all these different ways to update the player.

Yes, you need to use the Esoteric Sound Stream app to update the network firmware. The base I/F firmware needs to be updated using a computer.

Esoteric has not licensed Leedh Processing Volume.

The I/F firmware is the main unit firmware that interfaces with the network board or SACD drive.

Man, I've been refreshing their web page every 10 minutes for 2 days now!

No need to. Here is what the Estoteric distributor / rep wrote me this morning when I wrote him:

-----------

That is correct.

The Japan team is preparing for the release and going through some beta runs to be sure everything is good to go before posting. They are targeting the 5th, but it could be a day or two later as well. We’re close.

Actually, it's 7:15am on the 5th in Tokyo right now, so I'm refreshing even more!

Great news! Aligned with the timing of Roon 1.8 release.

Let's hope that the USB firmware upgrade isn't mandatory since I have never been able to update it.

I am not sure why it would be mandatory since Roon connection is through the network right?

I didn’t have to upgrade the USB firmware to make Roon ready work.

First impression is very positive:
- Streaming from my Mojo Dejavu Evo Roon core through a Melco S10 with a 5 US$ Ethernet cable from Melco to N-01XD I find the sound significantly superior to what I was getting with the Esoteric app. I’ll try next with a Shunyata Omega, it can only be better.
- zero discoverability/stability issue

Very happy so far!

Cheers,
Bernard
