Hi guys, I want to change the switch I currently use, for a better quality one and it also has SFP connectors, the SFP port I want to connect to my X1. I made a drawing so that you have an idea of the connection in my house. What I wanted to know is if this switch works for what I want to do? Thanks

The switch i want to buy is this Ubiquiti Edgeswitch Es-10xp

the edge switch is a managed switch meaning you have to configure it via a browser interface which accesses the switch on the network.

if that is not something you care to do, then have a look at the JetStream 8-Port Gigabit Smart PoE+ Switch with 2 SFP Slots which is a smart switch... ie plug-and-play.

either switch should work fine for your purposes in the diagram... i am liking the fiber direct to the X1! should sound terrific as the X1 is being delivered a completely noise free signal.

I bought the Netgear Nighthawk S8000 switch recently. Works like a charm.

Thanks for the reply and recommendation. Please correct me if I'm wrong, the switch you recommend should be configured as the one I mentioned (Edgeswitch Es-10xp)?

Thanks Nicoff for the recommendation, unfortunately in Argentina I can't find this switch.

Got it. I have friends in Latin America and they use ship forwarding companies to buy stuff in the USA and have it delivered to their countries.

You might want to look into it and check if it is available for Argentina.

Basically, you set up an account with a forwarding company. Then you can buy anything in the USA and have it shipped to the forwarding company (usually a Miami address). The forwarding company receives it and then ships it to you. You basically pay for shipping twice plus whatever the forwarding company charges for this service. You may also have to pay some local taxes also.
If this service is available to you, you may or may not save money but you do get whatever you want even if it is not sold in your country. Just a thought for you to consider.

Please do not use a managed switch unless you're confident you can configure it. There is a significant probability they are NOT plug and play.

For consumers and audio purposes, I recommend using an unmanaged switch. (Most of the cheap switches are unmanaged.)

Hi Peter

not to derail the OP, but what switch do u recommend?

im tossing up at the moment between the JCAT M12, 2 x SoTM, or a Melco S100........ I cant try before i buy and everyone who has each product thinks its the best - so leaves me in no-mans land in terms of trying to figure which one is right for me

forgot to mention - i tried a ubiquti switch as they are cheap and easy to get off Amazon - but as discussed its a managed switch and for the life of me could not get it to function no matter how many you-tube tutorials i watched and forums i asked for help in :)

Now that you've mentioned it, I just remember a coworker bought a Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X (with built-in switch) and could not get it to work with Lumin multicast network traffic. Finally an extra switch is inserted to pass multicast packets.

I don't have audiophile switch recommendation, but I suspect you're leaving out a cheaper model popular in another forum.

given that you will be running fiber directly to the X1, thereby eliminating all upstream electrical noise, an audiophile switch would provide no benefit.

all that is necessary is a quality, consumer-grade, unmanaged switch with SFP ports.

Thank you, very kind of you, if it is not much trouble please send me the information of your friends by private message. Thank you

Hi Peter, thank you very much for the reply, always very attentive and kind to help users. I see the availability in Argentina of the switches and transceivers the most convenient brand is TP Link. Please, if it is not much trouble, advise me some model (or models) of this brand to be able to use with my X1. (For example this model works for me? Tl-sg2424 T1600g-28ts Gigabit 24p + 4sfp switch) Thank you very much.

Can you get the Netgear Nighthawk? That what I use and am very happy with it

Hello Phishphan, thanks for the recommendation, in Argentina there are several brands and models of the switches, the big problem is afterwards to get the transceivers that are compatible, apart from some brands of the transceivers are too expensive more than 6000 USD. The truth is that I am not an expert in network issues and I do not want to be wrong. Regards.

A friend who lives in the USA wants to help me with this issue, he promised to buy what I need (switch, transceiver and cable) but they have to be links from Amazon. I strongly ask foreros to give me a few minutes of their valuable time to pass me the links of these 3 things so that they are compatible. I clarify again that I am going to use an rj45 port for tv and an SFP port to connect the X1. Thank you

have a look at this thread which is contains a lot of useful info on connecting the X1 to the network with fiber.

in particular, this post details networking gear that has been used with the X1
