Hi everyone.

Haven't checked out the action here yet, but I'm really looking forward to reading through the posts here as time permits.

I found this site courtesy of a post that "kiwi_1282001" made on another forum (AudioEnz) that we both belonged to (although it's not a happy place to be these days), so I signed up here as I like following the posts in his excellent thread "music from a farther room".

Computer Audio (CDs ripped as FLACs, and Spotify) are the main sources for my listening these days.

Thanks for letting me join your community.

Brendan.

Hello Brendan and welcome! Thanks for the kind words.

There is an enormous wealth of knowledge in this forum and I feel confident your participation will be rewarding.

Hey Brendan, there have been a large number of refugees escaping from that once good forum!

Thanks for the welcoming comments.

As Neil said, I am a refugee from AudioEnz. This was a once great New Zealand forum, which is now a pale shadow of its former glory.

A decision was made there to transfer the forum software to WordPress, which has simply not worked. Posting became a nightmare; the forum owner buried his head in the sand (more like an Ostrich than a Kiwi); and the membership dispersed.

I'm also a member of WitchDoctor (another NZ forum that has promise but needs time to develop) and StereoNetAustralia (good but not quite the right atmosphere for me). However what I crave is a mature forum that I can feel at home in.

For now I intend to troll through the backlog of threads/posts here and get a feel for the place. Don't expect to see many posts from me though.

Again thanks for the welcome.

Brendan.

Hi Gene,

I was born and attended school in Christchurch right up until I joined the Royal New Zealand Navy. Haven't lived there since although I visit occassionally as my eldest son Joshua lives there.

Where you there as part of Operation Deep Freeze? There were plenty on US Servicemen in Christchurch in the late 60's early 70's associated with operations down in Antartica.

The locals seemed to like having the "Yanks" there back then.

Sadly Christchurch has been badly effected by earthquakes since 2010 and the central city is almost unrecognizable having lost many of the older heritage buildings, including both the Anglican Cathedral in the city square, and the larger Catholic Cathedral a few blocks away.
