Fugly CD player
This might just be the ugliest CD player I’ve ever seen. The new McIntosh MCD85

I realize its not the case but, it is as though they had old parts left over and are trying to use them up.

Re: Fugly CD player
McIntosh clearly values some of the design elements in some of their classic gear. We all certainly understand the function of the MC75 amp chassis. But, that look, with a box grafted to the top is truly ugly. Doubt it will sell well.
Not that I would get one, but I did enjoy the look of the turntable in the TV shoe “Elementary”. It looked cool tucked into a bookshelf near matching McIntosh gear.Amp : DIY FirstWatt M2x mono amps

Re: Fugly CD player
Tidal recently became inspired for design ideas for their speakers from Bugatti.
Perhaps McIntosh received their industrial design inspiration for the MCD85 from the Fiat Multipla.

Re: Fugly CD player
They obviously designed this to go along with the new line of gear that started with the MA252 and MA352. I really don't like this player but honestly I do like the design of these integrated amps and the C8. And no I have not been drinking the water in Binghamton
. I have not been home in a couple of years
....
Since they continue to add more models to this design layout it must be popular for them. A company does not stay around and prosper for over 70 years without giving their customers what they want....Pre-amp: Hattor Passive w/Tube Active Stage
Amplifiers: McIntosh MC7100 v2, MC754
Digital: T+A DAC 8 DSD; Falcon NW PC Server; Roon; HQPlayer

Re: Fugly CD player
Not sure on the spinner
.... I would not. I assume people who have the other pieces would be interested in it to complete the setup.
However I would be interested in the pre-amp. I really liked the MA252 when I had one and it sold pretty much immediately when I put it on the market. Since they keep adding models to the lineup they must be popular.
I will say they look a whole lot better in person then any of them look in the ads and photos. (not sure the spinner will though)

Re: Fugly CD player
You guys are mean
...
Honestly though, I bet it will be fairly popular for McIntosh. People with a MA252, MA352, or the C8 might be wanting one.
But honestly, the true ugliest thing they make is this monstrosity:

Re: Fugly CD player
My parents taught me to keep negative opinions to myself. But, one has to wonder who would approve such an ugly looking component. Furthermore, while there is always a buyer, I can’t imagine showcasing this CD player in one’s stereo rack.
