CES 2016

Mike, great to meet you and "talk story" as they say in Hawaii.

Yes indeed Bill. Great to meet you as well. What rooms impressed you? I know you liked the Kharma/LAMM room. I wanted to take those Lamm amps home!

Mike, my audio buddy, David Karmeli, lent his EMT 927 to Vladimir to use in the room. We arrived Monday afternoon and I watched the room setup. The table is a monster with a large platter. The motor has rubber wheel that drives the inside of the platter. It is a 220 v, 50 Hz motor and David supplied a lab power supply that generates the power.
Alan Molton sp? Is the new Khrama rep for the US and I helped him remove the Esquisite Midi's from their coffin's. Unlike the Wilsons that have wheels the Khrama's lie on a dolly with wheels. So after removing the top and the bottom is hinged the speakers can be rolled out. The hard part is lifting up the Dolly with 550 lbs of speaker.
Alan placed one speaker where the couch was in the main listening position. He than used a laptop with REW and Microphone to find the best place for speakers. Using pink noise he move the microphone from floor to 2 foot off the floor and looked at the under 100 Hz response. When he found the flattest response he marked the spot. After Left Alan came and put the spikes on the speakers and finished the setup.
Vladimir decided the ML-3's sounded best. The speakers are 91 db 4 ohms, so there was some concern about 18 watts being enough power but the amps did a great job, love those GM70's.
The Midi's have a new cone material, that gives off a very strange sound when rubbed with your finger but sound much livelier than the older Khrama midrange and bass units.
I'm obviously biased, but thought it was the best sound of the show. Although I've heard the Focal Grand Utopia's in that same room with VAC Amps and thought that was better.

Will do! I owned the DAC2X and MA1. I'm interested to hear what they are doing now. Also interested in the S5 mk2's. I really liked the M Projects and S7's. Curious to hear the new S5 mk2's.

Mike, did you have a chance to hear the S5 mk2 or were they just on passive display?

No writings about the S5 mk2 as far as I can see, while the S1 mk2 was sort of a candidate for best of show (but that's Magico-marketer Valin again, who needs to pay tribute to the fact that he has a pair of M Projects in his listening room).

They were on static display and looked sweet in the white. I didn't they would look THAT good in white. Drool.

Did you see all the videos I took from the Magico S1 mk2 room? It was hard to pull myself away. They had this seamless 3D holographic presentation.

It was one of those palm to the forehead "why didn't I think of that?" situations when I saw the big CAT amps with KT150's driving the S1 mk2's. Great synergy.

These had KT150's. I asked.

I've also owned the first baby Magicos previously and so, like all Magicos, they do like power.

Were you there at CES?

Of course.

You do realize that KT120s and KT150s look nothing alike right? I have to wonder based on the fact you had to ask someone...and were subsequently misinformed afterwards.

If you want to prove to yourself which tubes were in the CAT Statements, why don't you simply look at a picture, any picture (even your own) to identify the tubes.

It's odd because I asked someone from Magico if those were KT150's and they said yes. Ok, if you know otherwise, I stand corrected.

So do I! Confused by your post I looked at pix I took on Day 1 and Day 3. KT120s...then KT150s. So we're each half right. I should have given you the benefit of the doubt. My apologies.

Apology accepted. No worries.

The point is, the combo sound great.

Me too. Did you notice how 3D they sounded? I kept telling people "it's worth the walk to the Mirage!"

For me it was the most transparent, 3D sound at the show. I also liked the Aries Cerat system but the presentation was completely different.

Me too. Did you get a chance to hear the B&W 803D3's, Kharma's (on the 35th floor), Raidho's and some others? Would love to hear your thoughts on the show too. Favorites, biggest surprises and any disappointments.
