If you had the choice, and have heard both... which would you pick and why?

802D3 or A5?

I believe Mike has both. Correct me if I’m wrong.

The A5 has Magico’s latest cone technology on the midrange and woofers. Even the M2, M3 and M6 don’t have the aluminum honeycomb core driver cones, they use Rohacell core. Lots of value there.

Try to give me a little more Mike,

What do you believe the A5 does better than the Bowers, and hopefully, what areas is the Bowers better in?

I can purchase both at just about the same price, the Bowers a little cheaper. I'm pairing either with a full Accuphase stack, class A/B... Accuphase uses 800 Diamonds in their factory listening room so perhaps there is some great synergy there. I'm just getting tired of buying and selling gear so hoping for a fantastic match here.

The price of either is a non-issue, I even considered buying both but Im getting tired of doing that and then trying to move them. $5K speakers sell much easier than ones at $20k+

I have liked all the Magico auditions I've heard.

B&W and Magico have very different sound characters.

I always heard B&W with Classe or ARC, the sound never did anything for me. I found it midrange strong and lacking bass. It wasn't until I heard the big B&W driven by Mac kilowatt mono's that I realized B&W could do bass. The &W/Mac is a good combo. I think theMac lets the B&W become mor listenable to me.

Magico has a good bass response with good detail, the highs are extended while remaining smooth.

That's how I hear it and for me it would be no contest.

A5.

Bowers seems to be confused... sometimes round up front... sometimes round out back...

Is no-one standing up for the 802's here?

As I have not yet heard the A5 I cant compare directly, but I have heard many high end speakers at dealers and shows and my 802D3's compare favorably to most speakers at or above its price point IMO. Granted, they do need power to get going!

I you need new speakers in this range I can only suggest you pay Mike a visit and hear for yourself. Just dont run them from a 70W integrated.
