Ayre KX-5 Twenty and VX-5 Twenty combo ......

It very well may, but comparing $5k to $35k isn't a fair contest. No one has done that direct comparison yet. But based on what we have heard so far on Sopra 2's at CES, Axpona, etc., it's a home run.

I've been following its development for a while and it does look awful good for the price. I wasn't talking about my system costing $35k, I was saying it will be in the league of $35k worth of the finest separates :)

It's quite the engineering marvel, and to be honest, I was surprised by how good it sounded on the Sopra 2's.

Congrats Joe... those Ayres look awesome...

So which sound best, Ayres, Bryston, Conrad Johnson, McIntosh.... hmmm Makes for some interesting combos :)....

What if you only had $9000 to spend, and you had to buy an amp? Any savings could be spent in other areas to improve performance elsewhere in the system.

New or used? Just kidding. Tough call, obviously the Nords are up there, but the MC75's hold a special place for me too. I sort of "love the one I'm with" so I still need to spend more time in the rotation. It's a dirty job, one that I'm willing to take upon myself. Stay tuned......

So you would buy toobs if you couldnt see them ....

:)

If it weren't for the plethora of other drawbacks I would possibly consider it. I strongly believe the best of both worlds can be achieved with rock solid cool running, efficient reliable transistors combined with digital filters.

I believe :D

If we all could only just listen with our ears instead of our eyes. But I know they are all connected to the same brain so that will never happen :)

Listening with our ears and not fussing about measurements is precisely why we choose tubes - as do many guitar players for their amps.

Yes and it's possible to listen to those guitar amps in their full glory through transistors as well. Ask Bruce Brown what he did with his Lampi GG after trying an experiment I suggested? After that ask him what his reference DAC is now :)

Bruce isn't much of a digital fan.

Yes I know. That's why he makes a living with digital :) it's also why his reference DAC uses transistors. But don't get me wrong, it's not because he has no tube experience.

Back to the Ayre topic....good class AB - NO D FOR ME!
