Had a Big5 with 6sn7 and 6x5. Rob (thanks again) helped me decide what to upgrade to. Was originally thinking Big7 with some part upgrades but ended up with Balanced GG. In any case, my setup is probably quite different than most of you. We moved when my wife was pregnant so my stereo setup was put into storage and is still there. No chance to play it like it deserves with the babies around. Ended up building out headphone setup instead which I can play as loud as I like. Hope the GG will eventually go to my 2 channel setup, but in the meantime, headphones it is.

Primary Setup(s) is:
Stax SR009 with KGSSHV and Headamp BHSE amps
Sennheiser HD800 and Audeze LCD X with Headamp GSX MKII Eddie Current 2A3 MKIV

So in any case I have a few questions for you Big7/GG Experts after stalking this forum as other Lampizator forums for last few weeks:

1) Which tube types can the Balanced GG use?

2) Tak 274b or WE 274a/b? Can't find where someone made a direct comparison even though some talked about it.

3) Do you need quad matched or 2 matched pair is okay?

4) Anyone try Marconi PX4 with Big7/GG? Have a line on them.

5) Elrog reliability? Talked to George at TubesUSA and he still wasn't recommending using Elrog with GG. I read through the various threads on Elrog reliability. There was supposedly some issue around amps at edge of WE300 specs having problems and that they redesigned tube to fix but still problems afterwards. So is the tube still problematic or fine for GG?

Thanks in advance and really looking forward to hearing the GG.

1) wait of the EML anniversary 45 MESH globe...coming in a week

2) Takat gets lots of love

4)ANGELO HAS THE PX4 AND LOVES THEM. LOOK AT LAMPI FBOOK PAGE FOR A LINK TO HIS GG REVIEW.

Does the Balanced GG/BIG7 require a matched quad? Or 2 Matched pair etc. I have seen comments that matched quads are preferred. But then I saw other comments where people were using 2 pair from different manufacturers! Anyone know the truth?

No clue about Balanced.

Got the Lampizator GG. Burning it in. it is one pretty package and definitely upgraded looks from my old Lampi L5. Mostly going to use for headphone (as most 2 Channel gear in storage), but got so excited that I grabbed a pair of B&W 805's lying around and hooked to my little 6W dual headphone/speaker amp. With the volume control, it suprisingly can get more than enough volume.

I do have a question on what settings to use with Auralic Aries and JRIVER. It worked fine initially, but I can't get DSD to work :(.

In any case, here is a glamour shot of part of setup.

Congratulations big time, looks beautiful.

DSD only works on the USB input and you have to switch over to the DSD engine via remote. Button 2?

Looking great Crashem! Let us know how the Lampi 45's sound.

Use the arrows at the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions....to toggle between the different settings.

Still burning this puppy in. Have it hooked up to both a balanced Stax setup and a Single Ended EC 2A3 amp that is driving a pair of BW 805's that I could easily move there. Surprisingly with volume control, I can drive the BW 805 really loud with the little EC 2A3 6W. In any case, at first I wasn't blown away. But noticed a couple days into it that the Auralic Aries was actually down sampling everything to 320k!

Had to reconfigure the Aries to deliver via UPnP mode (does anyone know if lightning mode work to deliver SACD?) to deliver SACD and bit perfect. WOW! Immediately noticed a difference. Comparing to the PS Audio DirectStream and the Chord Hugo and what I remember of my Lampi BIG5, better all around. Vs. the Directstream, the GG has all the liquidity of the Directstream without losing the dynamicism and makes the DS sound "soft." The GG makes the Hugo seem thin and cold. Once this thing burns in a bit, I'll do a more specific comparison. But especially with the right kind of music, the improvement is immediately noticeable and better.

Glad to read of your great impressions As much as you like the Golden Gate now with the Aeries configurations resolved, you'll be happier still after a month or so of burn in. I don't like to vocalize beliefs on burn in as it can be polarizing, but that DAC will make you a believer. Also, please remember both the PCM and DSD sides need independent burn in.

ENJOY!!!!

As an owner of Lampi myself , I always wondering why the unit is so Big ? :)

Fred, thanks for clarifying both sides needing equal amounts of burn in. That is helpful to know.

Yes indeed Le Roy. Remember, it's as if you have 2 dac's in one chassis. The DSD is separate and distinct from the PCM. Hence the reason why burn in on both signal paths is required. Hope this helps...
