Hello...! I know a lot people's here own big 7 and golden gate but what your experience to use this with or without preamp. ? Whích way sound better. ? Thankss

I have used and am using my Lampi dac direct to my amps. I have always preferred a preamp in the past. I have not tried my GAT (which is RCA only) to my amps with either the Big 7 or GG, both of which are balanced.

I need to hook up my GAT first and then try a fully balanced preamp to hear what I prefer. I have to say my Big 7 or GG straight to my amps is simply wonderful.

I am positive the Lampi balanced dacs straight to your McIntosh amps will be killer and you may never need the preamp if your source is digital only. There is an RCA/AUX input on the Lampi but I have not tried it.

Thank Joe for your reply. .! I did try directly big 7 to my mcintosh and cary amps..the sound just amazing but I need try it with preamp to see how different.

I am so curious too, but even if I don't get to hear it, I am happy and love what I hear now. I hope to try the GAT soon and will report back.

Hi my experience with B7 is that directly it sounds cleaner and faster, while adding quality preamps like jadis jpl and Shindo's second from the top added distortion, and were slower, but also added weight. So it came down to a preference. Two of my friends preferred direct, two of us preferred an external pre.

I'm wondering about Lampizator PCM performance. If I don't listen to DSD is it still worth it to get a lampi?

Absofreakinglutely! Most of my listening is PCM and I enjoy it immensely, DSD is better, but my Lampizator makes everything sound wonderful. I am supremely satisfied with mine.

As above. Pcm sounds good but DSD is astonishing

+1.... PCM through my GG is just as good as the DSD. I have no preference!

Thanks everyone for your input, guys. Although the lampi that I'm thinking of is Lite7, everyone's assurances making me feel like I won't be disappointed.

My dac search ended with a Lampizator.

If you want your smile to widen, compare it to much higher priced CD players and SS dacs. You will be laughing away at how you got the best digital for much less the price. There isn't ANYTHING, GG aside, that can come remotely close. Especially as the music gets complex, like classical

I have the Big 7 without volume control included - straight DAC. I ran it first into my Tube Research Labs Dude preamp (6sn7 tubes with massive tube rectified power supply), but I don't think it had good synergy. Added distortion in a negative way. Switched over to my Aum acoustics Tortuga-based passive pre, and the negative distortion is gone, and transparency is significantly increased. But I do miss a little bit of the weight the Dude added, but that's where signal tube rolling with the Big 7 comes in big time. I'm currently using Gold Lion 300B's which have a much fatter musical presentation than the stock 101D tubes, and totally compensate for the lack of the weight of the Dude. I think that's a HUGE virtue of the Big 7, that it completely transforms its character depending on what tubes you have in there, so you can get the sound you're looking for with even with a passive volume control.

You can get a Lampi with a short reasonable wait.

You may have to Will your BADA order to your Grandkids.
