I'm looking at upgrading my balanced lite7 to a single ended big 7. Does anyone have any configuration suggestions pcm engine, tubes, etc? I was sorry I had not read enough about the r2r ladder before my lite7 purchase.

Any help would be appreciated.

Talk to Fred at Lampizator USA about this. They have come up with a new configuration (to PCM), that is suppose to close the gap between regular PCM and the R2R setup. I am not sure if this is applicable to the Lite 7, or not. But the work can be done by Fred's tech here in the states. Definately worth a phone call.

Jerry-

Hi use the R2R, the other config that Jerry is referring to is the upgraded Amanero version. Don't think anyone has compared the two, but given there is not much cost difference, go R2R. Get DSD 256 at a minimu. 512 is optional. Don't get a preamp if you prefer to use an external one.

For stock tubes, don't get the EML recti - get the KR 274b. Don't get the 101D replicas as stock tubes, instead ask for the KR 242. If they don't give the 242 as stock, buy those separately, and ask for the amount of money of stock tubes to be deducted.

If you don't mind having 2 or 3 differing flavors of tubes, get the KR PX25 and some good 300bs of the market (Elrog, Tak, depending on your budget). I know they offer KR PX4 as stock, but not sure they offer the PX25 as stock.

The new pcm engine and the r2r engine are on par according to all the guys I spoke to at Lampizator.
The USB amanero board is a different independent board. I don't think they have anything to do with each other. At least that's my understanding.

I thought the new PCM engine was an upgraded amanero? Could be wrong

Me think not:scholar:

The new pcm engine is called 5942x, if on your Lampi it says 5942 (without x), then it's not the latest.
@ Richard: If you like to upgrade your Lampi and you have pcm it should be easier and cheaper to stick with pcm. Sonic quality wise I don't know if r2r really is better. If you trust the engineers at Lampi then it is not.

My lite7 was built in March 2016 and the pcm was what came standard with the lite 7 at the time. I am traveling for the week and will not be able to check paperwork for numbers till next week. I had read here on audio shark that the r2r was close to the dsd which seems much better on my lite7. At the moment I just upsample everything to dsd which is where I hear the magic. The lite7 was my initial let's see what Lampizator sounds like purchase since I had read all the good things. Now that I know I like the sound, like tube rolling mine, and how it works in my system I want to move upward in the line.

You are correct.
Ladder is only SE, while the new Delta sigma board can do Balanced. Both are about equal in SQ, but the Ladder is more expensive.

The real gem of the Ladder setup is that it can now do both PCM and DSD without switching, so no problems for mixed format PCM. Also, I am not sure how low the output volume goes on the ladder even after latest upgrades...so it might not be ideal for KR242. However, I am hearing that the PX25 goes toe to toe with the 242, so not a big issue. PX25 is SE only as its too hot for Balanced. Lets say the PX25 is the SE Ladder version of the 242!

No its a completely revamped board with a PCM Dac chip. I saw it last year at the Warsaw show and it looked like a patch kit for the BORG. LoL

New Amanero is their new USB board with upgraded clocks...apparently that is being tested now.

Apparently not better, but could be more convenient playlist wise...if SE. Balanced not allowed ...only for 5942x as you say.
That is what I got from chatting with Lukasz a few days ago.

Well so far it looks like a Big7 SE with dsd 256 and a R2R ladder.
Kr274b and kr242 and perhaps some other tubes in the future.
My only concern would be my Lumin U1 only supports dsd128 but
Its always possible I could change front ends in the future.

Perhaps PX25 instead of the 242?

You could also pay extra for DSD512 if you want to be hard core and future proof, though that may not be possible via R2R...

Listening to some blues, loving the detail of the 242's and amazing timbre.

Top of all the DYNAMICS.
My mate called it attack and speed, I believe it's the combination of the three.

The gain is enormous! 4X that of the Px4 for example.

Can you still NOT turn up the volume beyond 9am on the dial?

Yes, I recall you mentioned the short travel for the volume knob!

In that case you will be even surprised to hear that the volume knob hasn't gone past 8pm and this is playing at 90dB pressure at listening position.
