Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Like for the reasons Randy mentioned, Wyred 4 sound built them for him. However if you prefer Icepower, I sent a link to a $375 amp using the same modules. And you also get a DSP engine thrown in for free!

I'm sure the few hundred dollars more per module did not affect Gary's decision...

btw, could you forward a link from where you are quoting about the NC500 at Munich ...

Did Joe say best in the world as you , i dont think so and im not aware of their references and experience as I'm with yours and Note, Im not disputing anyone's preference , it's your constant absolute statements on what's best and why everyone should have one ...

BtW , Funny how you wont send your boards to have them evaluated... :)

Who said best in the world? I don't recall saying this.

I'm just curious as to whom Mike would send the boards to and what would make them qualified to do such an evaluation?

I have got to believe that these amps were used on Gary's request, not directed by W4S. After all Wyred does not use these amps... Again, just my naive opinion... although I have no knowledge, but I think if I were Gary I would ask opinions and if I were told that stability issues had been encountered I would shy away from the product.

Marty for one had asked, I then suggested that Mike Send one of his modded NC500 to Audio Shark Mike for evaluation, both request seemed reasonable..

Unless Marty is going to have an apx-555 on hand, it's better for Marty to send his to me instead.

Unless I have missed something over the last three years Mike B. does not have the equipment to test input boards which is all that Mike/Blizzard has built. He is using off the shelf Ncore 500 modules and power supplies just like Merrill, Bel Canto, Astah and others. The differences occur with the input board implementation just like with the various ICE based amps.

Whether Mike buys his own set of Nords or just borrows Jerry's after they break-in he can form his own opinion in his two systems. I had Joe's in my two systems for several weeks and they are very good amps in their price category. Are they SOTA no, but very good amps just the same.

The voice of reason. Agreed Jack. In that $1600 price point, sure, give them a listen. But for me, the JOB225 is still my "holy crap I can't believe it's so cheap" amp.

Jack, I had suggested to Mike to send his modded amps to Mike B. for evaluation , nothing about bench testing boards and Class-D Mike is suggesting they are SOTA and superior to most...

Did the ones you listened to have Mike's input boards ... ?

Keep in mind that Joe has the old boards that have been revised since. I will be the first to say they are mediocre at best

What input boards did you order with yours?

I have the very latest boards in my Nords and they are mediocre at best compared to the NC400.

Yet aren't these the exact same amps and boards that you so highly touted and recommended to Joe just a short time ago? How quickly things change!

The ones I listened to were using the Nord Rev B board and the Sparkos Op Amps. They were a better match to my ears with the KO's than with the Spatial's. I also own the Job 225 and have for well over two years. It has not been in rotation for over a year. When I bought it, it was a great match with the Vandersteen 2CE Sigs, but when I switched to the Treo not so good. The Treo was a much more difficult load both sensitivity and impedance wise and the Job seemed uncomfortable. On the other hand the Odyssey Kismet handled the Treo's with ease. I guess I need to give the Job another listen and see how it works with the Nola's. Another issue with the Job is it's input sensitivity of .75 volts. I prefer to use tube preamps with SS amps and with the Job the only option I had that would work was the W4S STP-SE. Now that I have the Rothwell attenuators I will give it another try with the Modwright and Sonic Frontier preamps.
