    Wilson Benesch and Magico

Has anyone done a direct comparison between both? I have owned a few Magicos over the years and I could never get them to sound natural. I had a brief audition with Wilson and I quickly ordered the Discovery 2's, Ill have to live with them for a few weeks before I know myself. Thought I would ask if anyone has made the same comparison as I have.

I’ve only heard them a bunch of times at shows. WB is very HiFi sounding to me.

The discovery sounds in european buildings very natural and less neutral like any Magicos I have heard.

    My opinion.

The major difference to me is that sealed box designs like YG and Magico need to be driven to decent volume levels to come alive, whilst the music flows from WB both due to being ported but also due to the simple electrical crossover.
I like both Magico & YG, but often want to listen to music at lower volume levels, and this is where WB weaves it's magic. I listened extensively to both and went with WB.

I would be interested to know what electronics you were using in your quest to get them (Magico's) to sound "natural"...what ever that means.

Funny that you mention that Gene... the latest pair of S1 MK2's I had were driven by Accuphase. Previously to that Bryston cubed, Marantz Reference and Sugden Class A. Unfortunately I never had a chance to try them with the 509X I had for a little while.

Perhaps "natural" means different things to different ears.
Unfortunately, the only measurements I could find on WB were not very "natural" looking (https://www.stereophile.com/content/...r-measurements). Even JA was "puzzled." Other WB may measure different, but strangely, I couldn't find any on-line

Feel free to compare to the S1 you said you had: (https://www.soundstagenetwork.com/in...nts&Itemid=153)

"natural" to me means the singer/person being right there in the room with you.

Yup. And they sound very HiFi to my ears at least. Not bad, I just didn’t find the WB’s engaging. Could have been bad parings though.

The Wilson Benesch Vertex monitors (same level drivers as their top models) driven by Luxman 900 series electronics are simply magical and extremely transparent, with no undesirable hardness or 'hi-fi' attributes exhibited.

    Re: Wilson Benesch and Magico

I recently had the chance to listen to a pair of Magic S1 MkII driven by high end Accuphase amp (not sure the exact type).

The room was different so it's a bit hard to compare but, although the Magic certainly did sound nice, I couldn't find anything in that combo more impressive than the WB Vector + Devialet 250 I was using then at home.

The CD was music I was very familiar with.

    Cheers,
    Bernard
