I’d love to see the process of design and voicing a speaker like that. I’m sure while tedious at times, it could be pretty awesome.

Re: Wilson Alexx V
soon you can add the wilson acoustic diode (spikes) to any model, wilson or not.
the rest will be implanted in upcoming models for reason mike has mentioned.

only one more week until the release of the alexxV!! my dream speaker, not my wifes one.
my dealer has one on the way to replace the chronosonic xvx. that is an incredible speaker, however i think the alexx wont be far off its performance.

Re: Wilson Alexx V
Doubt it. Bottom cabinet and tower are very different to the original Alexx. And, they have developed a new crossover along with some new drivers. Too much work for an upgrade program.
Now, Wilson has traditionally had a trade program via their dealers for Wilson owners. I imagine they will use this program again._______________

Re: Wilson Alexx V
This reminds me of something coming from a Star Wars movie. What an ugly set of speakers. For that kind of money, you would think that they could hire an industrial designer.

Re: Wilson Alexx V
Darryl has placed a stronger focus in R&D and his speakers have improved significantly. Also, the ability to adjust the upper drivers to suit the specific room setup and seating location is a big plus.
Look forward to hearing the new Alexx Vs._______________

Re: Wilson Alexx V
I heard the Alexx V last night at Excel in Newport Beach, it was an impressive demo. Mike spun the IMPEX Patricia Barber 1-step of Cafe Blue, im not a big Barber fan but this particular pressing is exceptional. The Aleex V is def in a similar league to the Wamm Jr system set up on the opposite wall (Chronosonic XVX with double Thor subs). Even without subs the Alexx V has tight extended bass driven by BAT tube monos (160 WPC). Color me impressed.

I think it’s a long-term trend, logos are getting bigger and bigger everywhere. Maybe because baby boomers are getting blurred vision?
I actually don’t mind. Some people like the sound and looks, others don’t. But what is out of the question is that there’s a lots of effort going into designing this level speakers. They’re works of art.

Re: Wilson Alexx V
I’d love to hear the Alexx V in my room. The original Alexia v1 had a mid-bass bump ~70 hz of a few db, and that was very close to a multiple of my rooms’ fundamental frequency. As I improved my source what was occasionally a bit of muddiness cleared up significantly, but still certain recordings with a little emphasis, combined with the speakers’, and I would be forced to hold the volume perhaps a notch below where I would have liked to go.
When i saw the Stereophile review of the original Alexx I had to contend it wouldn’t likely be the best match in my room because the mid-bass bump was more prominent than in the Alexia, and no easier to drive. I will be curious to see how the new Alexx V measures.

Re: Wilson Alexx V
"A meaningful silence is always better than meaningless music..." TheOctopus (joke )
Yes, many speakers do have a range where they start to shine. Thus we have the few really good "late night" listening speakers and most speakers should really be matched to the volume of space where they will shine instead of large speakers being placed into smallish rooms expecting to be impressed because they are big and expensive? Large speakers like the Alexx will certainly knock anyone's socks off with the dynamic contrast but are "perhaps" a waste of money to listen to at 60dB?

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
