alexia V

I owned the first version of the Alexia’s. Enjoyed them for 5 years. Sold them to a friend that’s enjoying them immensely with ARC power. Look forward to listening to the Alexia Vs.

Price has gone up from 57k up to 67k - 79k. When will this constant price increase stop?

I wish we had the answer to that question.

Alexia 2 Pricing - $58K - $70K (With Acoustic Diodes - $61K - $73K which come on Alexia V)
Alexia V Pricing - $67.5K - $79K

The introduction of Alexia 2 was almost 6 years ago, well before the multiple supply chain raw material price increases that began in 2020 and to some degree have not fully subsided today. We see scheduled ongoing price increases from vendors, as many as 4 in 2022 for some. Freight increases alone, in and out, are brutal. While we would prefer to have the same price as Alexia 2, our desire to bring Alexia V along the technology path of Chronosonic XVX and Alexx V added to these ongoing vendor increases made that impossible.

While recognizing that inflation may result in no good choices, to me, a higher price on a superior replacement product is a lot more palatable than a price increase on an old model.

very well said!
from 61 to 67 is 10% only. lots of others went up more than this without any improvement.

that said in europe the price went up from 74 to 92k (standard colors), that is more than 20% increase for no other reason than greed and puts me out of interest while i was sure to get a pair. just not willing to play that game.

great review btw. wilson knows how to do the job more than just right.

I'm guessing that much of the increase you're seeing in Europe is due to currency effects due to a very strong US dollar vs. the Euro.

74,7 is the current price of alexia2, i guess the exchange rate is implemented already.
then again thx, what you say may still have some influence.

The Alexia V will be the main event when Paragon has the first of its 5 Fall music events on the 6th of October. That will be followed by another October event, two in November and the last in December. Nice to have these to look forward to after a couole of years of Covid.

I am very happy with my Alexia 2. When I am ready for the speaker upgrade, I think I will first consider the bigger model, Alexx V or even a pair of used Alexx.

Have had the new Alexia V's for a few weeks now:

Words to describe what I’m hearing so far:

The Alexia V delivers!

No more clutter…unpacks everything…nothing is hidden..ruthlessly exposes everything, including too close or bad miking in the source

Articulate comes to mind, as does clarity and lifelike decay

The soundscape is more clearly exposed in all three dimensions

Yet the background is quieter than it’s predecessor

Three dimensionality is magnified yet with proper proportionality

There’s a deep bass foundation that effortlessly delivers, when called for with propulsive force

More articulate and dynamic…listening to Senor Mouse with Chick Corea and Gary Burton the instruments are more like the real thing…as are massed voices and an accordion on cuts like “Talk to Me of Mendocino” on Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s “Tell My Sister”. Like many other instruments played through the V’s, it's more realistically rendered.

Authoritative - especially moving air - think a Joe Frazier body blow

Greater delineation, resolution and accuracy of sounds with a better and more pinpoint soundstage imaging - this midrange is wonderful as is the tweeter. Seamless and absolutely time coherent presentation throughout

This speaker seems to demand you play the system louder to let it blossom, yet you don’t feel you’re being overwhelmed or swamped in the listening. And proportionality is maintained throughout the sonic spectrum.

Everything is more realistic…even the audience in live recordings is captured in all manner of varied microphone placements

Net: refined yet mighty!

listened to the Alexia V's last friday, driven by a Progression S350 and a Linn Klimax streamer/DAC, it sounded fantastic, effortless music.
The Alexia's were still on the transport wheels, I can imagine further improvement when the wilson Diodes are installed.

hi steve, i saw your system picture on sanfrancisco audiophile society forum, which i belong, and send you a message but seems like you don't very often look there.
could you reply there with your contact info.

I'd love to own a pair of these speakers -- but priorities are priorities. For those who have the older V1's, splurge and install the V1 acoustic diode kit and with their age, in all likelihood, some, maybe not all of the rear resistors are open -- just replace with the spares that came with the speakers. It's like getting a new speaker again.

I regularly test the rear resistors every 6 - 8 months or so - just looking for opens & values in ohms if they aren't open.

I don't bother to check the woofer resistor in the base of the speaker -- I've been told if I found it was bad, I'd be the first person in Wilson history to have a bad resistor there (or words to that affect).

Best to all,

Bob
