A Touch Of Memphis Blues
With the loss of Jack, our solid red English Staffordshire Bull Terrier, 3 months ago after 15 years, The Lady convinced me to get another pup.
So I present below solid blue English Staffordshire Bull Terrier DeBayBlues ATouchOfMemphisBlues at 5 weeks old.
We have decided to call him Keck. A close derivative to the Hungarian word Kék meaning blue. We get him in another 7 weeks.

They are cute. Both mother and grandmother in the pic are milk barrels. Interestingly the grandmother (of the mother) started lactating again to help out. The mother has more than enough rich milk for them to get drunk on. The litter is very happy and relaxed.

Re: A Touch Of Memphis Blues
I'm sure you know by now that the first two years of a dog's life is a challenge with regards to things they will chew on and destroy. As far as housebreaking them, that's a different subject. Having owned and raised dogs for 37 years, I consider myself a master at housebreaking dogs. It takes a lot of work upfront, but after 6 weeks they should be housebroken if you do it right. Some dogs are smarter than other dogs and they learn faster.

Re: A Touch Of Memphis Blues
Congrats Steve! Keck is gonna steal your heart in no time.
Having lived with our previous boy for 13 years, it had been 14 years since we had a fresh puppy until this past spring with our new one. Puppy training comes back to you. Not quite like riding a bike but it comes back albeit a little different with each pooch.
With housebreaking complete, the other stuff will fall into line in no time.
Nice looking dude that Keck.Avanti Audio

Re: A Touch Of Memphis Blues
Thanks guys. Staffords are really intelligent dogs and eager to please. Once we get past the housebreaking it should be good. The breeder has been great putting in many hours teaching and socialising. They have a site on Facebook and keep us up to date with stacks of photos and videos. The video snippets give you a good idea on development and their locomotion.

Steve, as mep & Mike has mentioned, it'll come back to you. Get the basics right, one word commands etc. & remember "no" is way more important to teach them than "sit" for the first command

Re: A Touch Of Memphis Blues
It will come back. I'm confident he will be good natured too. They are all different.
"NO" and "Gentle". I also like to use the word "slash" as a command to teach him about the necessity to urinate outside and also on demand.
