Magnificent. I heard the G1 Spirits at a private showing when O'Hanlon was still the rep. They were all that and then some, a bargain for what they sell for.

Congrats Mike! The Vivid G1 Spirit with external crossovers are state of the art reference level speakers. Have listened to Vivid’s old top of the line model and can only imagine how great this new top model is. What components are needed to bring out the best sound from the G1 Spirit?

I have never heard those speakers, but they remind me of the singer in The Fifth Element. If they are as good as her then they are superb.

Re: Vivid G1 Spirits with External Crossovers

The speakers take on their design shape for a sonic reason, not for aesthetics necessarily.

“The shape of the GIYA is defined by proven acoustic principles unhindered by the conventional loudspeaker enclosure norms of building trapezoids out of MDF. The enclosure of the G1 represents the state-of-the-art in enclosure design and materials science. There are no off the shelf drivers here either. Every driver was carefully designed using finite element analysis.

The swirling, cochlear shape and materials of the GIYA G1's vacuum-infused, composite fibre cabinet are not so much a matter of style as of function. The woofer chamber is curved to prevent standing waves, and to save space. The teardrop shape of the GIYA's front baffle reduces cabinet reflections, and the enclosure's downward taper (noticeable when viewed from the side) allows the tapered tubes of the mid-bass, midrange and tweeter to be solidly anchored to the rear of the enclosure with a single locking screw and O-ring.”

Awesome! Coincidentally I heard a fellow audiophile's pair of G1 Spirits last weekend and was astounded how good they were versus my G2 S2s. They sound much bigger and bolder. Of course stellar components and the huge room didn't hurt but still, amazing performance way above their price point IMO.

Re: Vivid G1 Spirits with External Crossovers

FWIW - Unexpectedly, the G1 Spirits ended up being slightly cross-fired at the Anchor Point - the listening seat.

I could just see a bit more of the outside of their frames than the inside, as if they were perhaps aimed at the opposite shoulders or ears.

That could well have been the client's room, but at any rate, I hadn't expected the speaker set-up to be a bit different than most others.

    His electronics were C.A.T.

Sadly, he passed away a few months later, before our next session, as he had some room modifications scheduled...

Re: Vivid G1 Spirits with External Crossovers

I stopped by Mike's store today. Had a chance to see and listen to the G1 Spirits; although just for 30 minutes.

First, the look and finish of the speaker is exceptional. I must confess, I have not been a fan of the Vivid G series look. But these G1s look pretty darn good. The construction and paint finish look terrific.

We listened to some latin (salsa) orchestra music (Manteca by the Kenichi Tsunoda Big Bad), Vivaldi's Four Seasons (Winter 1), Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Clark Terry/Freddie Hubbard/Dizzy Gillespie (The Alternate Blues - Alternate one).

    So, what did I hear?

    - A very fast, large sounding and highly accurate speaker. The salsa music was presented with great power and detail. The orchestra presentation was big. Impressive!
    - On Vivaldi's, I heard very good instrument separation. The violins sounded very real. Good depth.
    - Norah Jones - Don't Know Why is probably her most popular song. It has nice melody but sometimes, depending on the system, her voice can overload speakers or at least give a sense that the microphone was too close to her during the recording. Well, with the S1s, the presentation was very natural, melodic and very enjoyable.
    - Diana Krall - Live in Paris album (can't remember which song was played) sounded very natural. Presented her voice with excellent clarity. The piano sounded with a very good sense of reality. Good depth.
    - Terry/Hubbard/Gillespie - The Alternate one song is a fantastic song to check out systems. These three guys do a stellar job contributing to this studio recording. Needless to day, horns were real and impactful on the S1s.

Overall, based on a short audition and the fact that they are still in the break in period, these Vivid G1 Spirits are special. I'll have to come back in a few weeks for a listen.

Re: Vivid G1 Spirits with External Crossovers

Vivid is one of the few speakers that I would consider if I were to upgrade my Blades. I am partial to speakers designed from the ground up by real acoustical engineers with cabinets, drivers, crossovers, etc all created specifically for the job to be done. Vivid checks all of those boxes. Nothing off the shelf.

Oh, and why everyone doesn’t use force cancelling drivers is beyond me. I know the job can be done in other ways, but this really does solve a ton of issues.

Want to ask whether it is worthwhile to get external crossover. I have a chance to get a pair of internal crossover now but I need to wait 2 months to get external crossover. I may wait a bit if it is a massive upgrade.

I would recommend the external crossover version. A short wait is worth the much longer period of time you'll be enjoying them.
