Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
The Vitus SM-102 monoblocks running in Class A mode are some seriously sweet amps. I'd also love to hear the SM-011 monoblocks and compare their intelligent Class AB bias sound to my Soulution 501 monoblocks. The SIA-025 and SS-101 integrated, and SS-102 stereo look like nice amps but just don't deliver enough power in the Class A mode to interest me with my incoming speakers' 83.5 dB sensitivity.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
If you have not heard the SM102's you would be quite surprised at the power/current they deliver running in Class A. The SM011's Intelligent Class A amps are also very strong amps. We have both sets of amps and would suggest that you listen to them vs. looking at their VERY conservative power ratings.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
What is intelligent bias? How does it work? The predecessor, 010, was 40 watts class A. Is the 011 the same?
How does the 011 compare to the 102? I heard the a big stereo amp in Toronto (so did Paul) on Magico S5's and it was incredible.
Bob, have you tried the glorious Absolare tube amps on your new Magico's?My Systems: http://www.audioshark.org/showthread...481#post158481

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Intelligent Bias Class A circuit directly measures the output current of the amplifier and adjusts the bias to the optimum level. Because Intelligent Bias Class A measures the output current, the real time demands of the specific speaker connected to the amp are directly incorporated into the circuit function. In addition, Intelligent Bias Class A even reduces the bias when the signal is at very low levels, making its operation undetectable by ear and even by standard amplifier measurements.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Howdy Mike..... ( I edited this post as it was not clear originally)
The Intelligent class A has a monitoring circuit that increases and decreases operating temperature of the output devices. It is "theoretically" performing in class A most of the time, without constant high temp operation.
From when Hans changed/updated from the 010 to the O11's there were several changes and he then rated the amplifiers with more realistic power ratings.....200W on the 011's. They are very powerful.
As always there is the system synergy/speaker thing going on, but with the Magicos or Kaiser that I have used the 011's and SM102's if you listen to the 102's in AB mode they sound great, UNTIL you hit the button on the remote and then hear the SM102's in Class A mode. For me the SM102's in Class A mode is "the berries".
The SM011's are just so easy to live with size wise and operating temp wise vs. the SM102's running in Class A, which "heat up". The 011's sound different that the 102's in Class A, maybe faster, VERY transparent, very open sounding, but with good body to the images.
The SM011's run in Class A or ICA to 40 Watts, 200 Watts into 8 ohm and 400 Watts into 4 ohm in Class AB, switchable via remote.
The 102's are rich, a little warmer than the 011's, VERY full bodied, authoritative, tube like midrange, world class bass, transparent, but maybe not as transparent as the 011's. When both the 102's and 011's are running in Class A the sound is closer in nature than not, the 011's might not have the "weight" of the 102's.
If you are listening to the 011's on the Magicos you say these are the ones. Then you switch to the 102's and you say no, these are the ones, etc., they both sound REALLY good with Magico especially. That one notch on the warm side vs. totally neutral matches so well with the Magicos.
Have not tried the Absolare SET's yet as they are at a customer's who is waiting for his Kondo Kaguras. I will have them back in a few weeks when his Kaguras are delivered, which will be driving Q7 MKII's. The Absolare SET's drive the Q7II's in a good size room to pretty good levels.
I have tried the Kaguras with the S7's (not the S5II's yet as Myles has my Kaguras at the moment) and they are VERY holographic and sound great, BUT when you put on the Vitus Sm102's in Class A the S7's stand up to attention and roar.
One last point is that like most amps, but especially with the SM102's they take at least an hour playing in Class A mode to really strut their stuff. The SM011's take some time to warm up as well, but not as long as the SM102's. They are both VERY listenable from the get-go but after an hour in Class A with the 102's then you understand what they are all about.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Hi Ken,
That's a tough one, I think it might come down to personal taste and speaker/system combination. My preferences are:
1) SM102 Class A ($67.200/pair)
2) SM011 ($50,400/pair) ( these amps have a "sparkle" to them, meaning VERY OPEN high end)....I really like/love them UNTIL I put on the 102 Class A The SM011's running in Class A/ICA (40 Watts) are as good as the SM102's running in Class A but only go to 40 Watts in A vs 100 in the SM012's. Although the 40 Watts in A never seem to run out of steam with the Magicos, but when you turn up the volume on say the Vandy's they would run out of steam in the A mode.
3) SM102 Class A/B and SM011 in A mode OR the SM011's in A/B mode, they are different but both very good.
A nice feature of the SM102's is via the remote control you can switch from A/B to Class A. As Adam said you can also do the same thing on the SM011's from the remote.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Hey Ken,
Thinking about it, and this is just a guess, if I had to guess at which Vitus amps between the 102's and 011's on the Vandy's I would probably pick the O11's. The power would be better AND I think that openness that I mentioned would work well with the Vandy's, but again I am totally guessing.
Ken, the SM011's on moderate volume running in Class A would probably be fine on the Vandy's. You would have to switch to A/B to pump up the volume on the Vandys.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Hi Adam,
Are you sure? I thought the SM-011 is an Intelligent Class A amp, which would essentially be a Class AB that operates in Class A as often as possible without producing excessive heat. I thought the SM-010 was the switchable one between Class A and Class AB.
Best,

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
(I edited my answer as I was not clear originally)
Nope Adam is correct you can run the O11's in Class A via the remote or going into the menu.
To clarify, when you run the SM011's in Class A (which is Intelligent Class A) the power is 40 Watts.
When you switch (either via the remote or on the menu from the front panel) to AB the power is 200W into 8 ohms and 400W into 4 ohms.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
One feature sm102s do not have – which sm011 do – is the different sound modes –
The default operating mode is the 007 mode (same config of outpustage as the sm-102) and rambo mode which
Couples in a different way that gives a bit more forward and edgy sound)
These two modes are configured by the front menu, not the remote. As Adam has said you can change from AB to A via the remote in the 011's.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
100 Watts of Class A is pretty special, so that is the reason, BUT within the 40 Watt Class A limits of the O11's it would be a toss up and personal preference. If I could drive the speakers with the 011's in Class A that I was using then the form factor of the 011's is great to live with vs. the BIG 102's. Although the 102's look awful cool, once you get them in place.
Here is a better way of saying it, if the 011's could drive your speakers in Class A, then you would never lust for the 102's or probably even want them as the 011's in Class A are that good. BUT if you needed more power, that is when you would be wishing for the 102's.
Although to be clear the 011's are running at 400 Watts into a Magico 4 0hm load, with the first 40 Watts running in class A and then switching over to A/B (Intelligent Class A) when you select Class A via the remote or menu. Most of the time at normal listening levels you will not be going over the 40 Watts of Class A.
I would say that the ICA circuit in the 011's sounds little more "sophisticated" and probably more transparent and maybe higher resolution than than the 102's BUT the 102's are so room encompassing that you don't notice any lack of resolution vs. the 011's.
Really the only way to know the difference is to hear both the 011's and the 102's and even then it's confusing because they both sound so good.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Hi Ken,
First, when the SM011's are put into pure Class A mode via the remote or the menu through the display on the amp, the amps deliver 40 Watts of Class A mode before "sliding" to A/B operation. Probably 90%+ of the time the amps are delivering Class A sound. In this mode the amps deliver 200Watts into 8 ohms and 400Watts into 4ohms. The first 40 Watts being pure Class A....they sound very powerful and you NEVER notice any "sliding" from A/AB.
You are only going to slide out of class A when you push the amps and you never notice it. The amps get VERY warm running in this mode and really sound like class A amps.
If you set the amps via the remote or the menu to A/B then they deliver 200W-80ohm, 400W-4ohm, never going into Class A. Once you hear them Class A you would never listen in A/B other than for background listening.
Besides the Class A/AB modes in the 011's, there are two other settings available via the menu, not accessible via the remote. The first and default setting is the "007" setting. This is the more natural normal Class A setting.
For hard rock or personal preference, where someone might want a more forward and possibly "edgy" (in a good way) sound, there is the other mode which is called "Rambo".
These two settings act independently from the A and A/B settings.
Please just ask questions if I am not clear....thx
Btw, I will be having dinner and meeting with Hans Vitus at Munich this Thursday, so if you have any specific questions let me know and I will get the answers from "the Viking"

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Thanks Bob!
For the SM-011 monoblocks, in Class A mode at idle, how much power in watts does each amp consume?
This should give me a general idea how much heat they produce. I had to sell my Pass XA-100.8 monoblocks due to excessive heat in my listening room. Don't want to go down that road again.
Best,

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
The 011's get very warm but not hot. The SM102's get warmer than the SM011's.
POWER CONSUMPTION (each)Standby <1WRMSFull Power ~250WRMS (I think this is probably in A/B mode, I will ck with Hans about the standby power consumption in A mode)
Here is the full spec sheet on the 011's

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Ken,
If you get interested in the SM011's and after your Vandy's break in, as we are in "shouting distance", I would be happy to bring over the SM011's over to your home and let you listen to them for a week. Then you would really know if you like them and if they work with your system.

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
That is what the spec sheet says on the 011's as well, but I REALLY thought that this was in A/B mode. I have a hard time believing that it's less than 1Watt in the pure class A mode.
I was with Hans today, but in the midst of setting up TT's and the room, with the SS103. I am having dinner with Hans tomorrow night and I will get the rundown.
Bthomsa9....you may have seen something that I have not see regarding the Class A spec, but I don't think I've heard of any Class A amp idling at less than 1 Watt draw. If you have seen this spec on the SS103 please advise as to where you saw it....thx

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
Yes, BUT this is EXACTLY what Ken needed. Hans told me this morning that the 011's were between 200Watt and 300W in A, which makes sense looking at the spec above.
Ken, I will get the exact figure regarding the 011's in A tomorrow, but it will probably be about 250W.
Thx again BThomas....sorry I don't know your first name

Re: Vitus Audio - My New Dream gears.
I noticed the AB power ratings went down from this spec sheet dated 01/2015 to today's power ratings - 400/800 to 200/400 for the SM-011 and they don't list the Class A power anywhere I could find.
But I also noticed the SIA-025 went from 25A/100AB to 25A/150AB and it has an "mk2" moniker now...Hans is a tweaker I think.

I upgraded the power supply on my Gigafoil v4 to a Weiss PSU 102. It’s very nice step up. But with the new model, you’re looking at $2000 before even investing in a SOTA linear power supply.
