The SM-103 mono's look awesome! I really like the way Vitus have filtered down design features from the Masterpiece series MP-S201. And good to see the VA logo back on the top cover. Exciting times at Vitus Audio!

    Re: New SM-103's

I heard the SM-103's at Munich and spent some time in the Vitus room over 3 sessions. They are still not in final form (for example they were only playable in Classic mode), but v close. They sounded stunning, even though I wasn't familiar with the speakers. They were using a Masterpiece line stage.
I spoke to Ole about the differences between the SS-103 and SM-103, and whilst there are some differences in the output stage, he said it comes down to room size and speaker sensitivity. For my room size (11m x 5m) he said the SS-103 would be fine.

Has anyone compared the SM-103s vs the SS-103? Please describe the comparison. Thanks!

I have had the SM for less than 2 months. Compared to my previous SS, pretty much the same character and tonality. With my relatively efficient speakers in a modest size room, at low volume, I would be hard pressed to tell you a difference. But once I turn up the volume, I can hear the better control and bigger soundstage brought by the increased power.

I do have a question for folks who use the SS103 or SM103. Which sound mode do you use, classic or rock? To me the rock mode sounds more punchy and powerful but the soundstage can be a bit too forward and lose some depth. What do others think?

I'm auditioning ss 103 and the sl 103. Compared to the momentum stereo, it sounds a lot more powerful, and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think the Aida could deliver such room shaking controlled bass. If I were to describe this combo, it's "grace under pressure." Never have I heard it sound strained, stressed, pushy or shouty and I've tried quite a number of top notch amps with the aida. I've read many comments about the aida having a suckout in the midbass. Driven by the ss 103 this notion is totally negated.

Btw, regarding the menu to alter settings, I've never encountered such a complicated, unintuitive, and in some cases rather pointless options. If Hans Vitus designed a smart phone, he'd be lucky to sell 10 units. Otherwise, theae are truly world class electronics.

Btw, to answer the original query, my friend, who also has Aida's opted for the monoblocs. They sound identical but since he listens really loud and likes to hammer dynamic passages, he opted for the monos which offer good value since they dont cost twice the price but offer twice the power.

compared to the dags, tonally similar, leaning to the warm side of the spectrum which is what drew me to these amps in the first place. the Vitus, however, has deeper, fuller and tighter bass, and the low end has this sense of weight that underpins the music. A bit more forward in the mids as the soundstage starts at the plane of the speakers but images are clearly denser, more natural and emerge from a quieter, blacker background and this contrast is what gives more life like presence to the musical reproduction. And most importantly, its more refined and never seems to loose its composure with the Aidas in a room that's,over 700 sq/feet, speakers pulled well forward of both front side and front wall. The Dags are still excellent amps and the new versions may be better than their predescessors.
