    Re: New Vinyl Purchases

KT Tunstall: Invisible Empire/Crescent Moon, Gregg Allman Laid Back QRP, Miles Davis: Relaxin QRP, Jimi Hendrix: In the West QRP. Also picked up earlier this month: Boston S/T used, the New Leonard Cohen, and Dean Martin: Dream with Dean. The Dream with Dean is NOT the 45 RPM, but a 33 RPM RSD release. I plan on comparing Laid Back with my standard pressing. The Miles was a no brainer.... I already have Steamin, and it's excellent. Great job by QRP on that one. Mike- I was painfully tempted to get Pet Sounds, but I'm holding out for the STEREO version. Please let me know how you like it. The Marshall Tucker should be interesting. Always liked them. I still spin Greatest Hits, and Where we all Belong, which is a live LP. Cheers -Don

Fantastic Austrian covers band (USA rock). 1988, superb recording, mastering and pressing. Great imaging and primer to focus speaker toe and balance.

I have that UK (band) LP. I just happened to see it, as I was organizing the other night. I couldn't decide to file it with YES or King Crimson (-: Went with the latter. I'm not a big PROG rock guy, but occasionally I will play a The Yes Album or Fragile. The former such a great record, but poor recording. Oh well.

I have not heard the UK album yet. I don't think I will file it with Yes, I'll just file it on it's own. I'm a Prog rock fan with my top two favs being Rush and Yes. I'm not much for King Crimson and Dream Theater though.
The Yes Album is one of their best and even among non-fans of prog rock it is still considered one of the better recordings and a great listen. Perhaps you have a bad pressing (I know the Rhino 180 gram pressing is not good. I have an original US pressing and Canadian pressing and both are great, but I understand the ultimate is the UK pressing, but good luck finding that. I have read that Steve Wilson has remastered the Yes Album on vinyl that rumor has it is supposed to be very good).

A recent purchase from a very nice gentlemen on eBay. The RCAs are 1s/1s save for the French Touch, which is 1s/2s. Spinning them now. So far so good!

I don't have a TT but I did buy that Scheherazade and the Espana, in addition to Pictures at an Exhibition (Reiner/Living Stereo, Analog productions) and Bruch Oistrakh Scottish Fantasia (Decca), all which I use for audition purposes only, when I travel around, to listen to different TTs.

Beverly Kenney 1959 recording Born to Be Blue (truer words....). Kenney worked early in life for Western Union as a telephone birthday singer. Sadly, she committed suicide at 28. A cult favorite especially in Japan. The Doxy Records recording on virgin vinyl is really terrific.

    Hi Steve,

Which pressing are you listening to? My wife found a UK pressing on Amazon ($48) and on the David Bowie site they are listing for $30. There is also mention of a 180g version but its not clear if that's the one for $30 or if it will be released later:

    From the DB site:
"In addition to the CD and digital albums, a special die-cut vinyl LP package will be available. 180g heavyweight black vinyl LP housed in a special die-cut cover art gatefold jacket. Includes 16 page color booklet with special varnish. LP package is a gatefold with die-cut star cover which you ‘look through’ to see the vinyl inside."

I'm just wondering which one to purchase that will have great sound.....

    Thanks.

Ok. Not exactually vinyl but this is a great book i received as a gift during the holidays and just getting into it now. Alex Steinweiss is generally acknowledged as the creator of the modern album cover. He died at 94 yrs of age in Sarasota, FL in 2011. Vinyl collectors will know and recognize his cover artwork, and Steinweiss script, as i did, but i knew nothing about the man till this book. Recommended.

    Re: New Vinyl Purchases

    Last weekend, I bought:

Respighi, Church Windows, RR-15, 45rpm. I was a little reluctant to shell out $20 for a used record, but figured I couldn't find it anywhere else cheaper.

Bach, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Glen Gould, Book 2, Preludes and Fugues 1-8
Bach, The Well Tempered Clavier, Glen Gould, Book 2, Preludes and Fugues 9-16
Bach, The Well Tempered Clavier, Glen Gould, Book 1, Preludes and Fugues 17-24
I'm just missing volume 2 of that series now.

Shostakovich Symphony 11, Moscow Philharmonic, Melodiya label
Sargent conducts Sibelius: En Saga, Swan of Tuonela, Finlandia, Karelia, Vienna Philharmonic on Odeon label

Running out of storage space and need to save money for a phono preamp, so these records might be the last for a while. Famous last words.

Awesome! I see so much about equipment and so very very very little about the passion that fuels equipment, music. Without music, why would be bother with equipment! Thanks so much for posting. I'm curious about the Peter Gabriel and Roger Waters. I will have to check it out.

I looked up the name John Fox it appears he was once in a band called Ultravox, a new way band of the late 70s and 80s. Did you listen to Ultravox back then?
