A friend who is heavy into vinyl recently shared with me his new approach to buying vinyl.

He told me that he Now only purchases limited edition audiophile pressings. He tells me that often he orders way in advance of release and has to wait many months to receive the album.
These releases are typically limited to just a few thousand copies.

He says that the sound of typical run of the mill LPs no longer compel him to buy them. He feels that he can get similar sound via Tidal. Moreover, while more expensive to buy, the limited edition pressings will hold their value better. (I have seen several folks giving away LPs but never the audiophile pressings so that makes sense)

I have a decent size LP collection and do admit to not having bought vinyl in long time (I have received LPs as presents though).

I buy albums on vinyl I particularly like.

Investment and audio are two words that do not go together well in my experience.
