    Maple Block for Turntable

After several suggestions to get my turntable off of the glass shelf that it was sitting on, I picked up this maple block.

    Jack

Just a suggestion, put some sort of isolation pad between the butcher block and the glass. Something like these are cheap and simple plus the same as the ones Mapleshade sells for ten times the price.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-PACK-ANTI...8AAOxyrrpThNvH

The also come with cork as the middle layer. I am using Herbies Fat Dots but these will work fine either type.

Jack.......Looks good but you need to go a little farther. I raised my Michell Gyro SE turntable off the glass shelf with a Boos Block maple board and there was a definite improvement, but when I raised the Boos Block off the glass shelf with Symposium Fat Padz the vinyl playback performance truly came together. http://www.symposiumusa.com/fatpadz.html

    Re: Maple Block for Turntable

I had problems with a Clearaudio Innovation on my old rack (Lovan Sovereign), and a maple block like that one (I had a friend who was kind of a jack-of-all-trades that put it together for fun) made a positive difference. Looks good! Definitely add pads under it, as suggested above.

Since I have an open order with The Cable Co. for some Herbies gear, I figured I would just add some Big Fat Dots to the order.

I have been using Herbie’s grunge buster dots between a Billy Bags rack and the 3” thick maple platform for my TT. I have experimented with having them in place vs having the block directly on the rack’s top shelf. I perceive greater clarity with them present. Awaiting on my new Adona rack to arrive and will then have to do the evaluations all again...

I need better isolation for my TT. At times I have tried different products and they do change the sound. I am actually most curious as to a wall mounted bracket. Has anyone compared a decent stand to a wall mount.

    Re: Maple Block for Turntable

Here's an idea. I'm a pretty heavy tweaker so I have taken a rega rp6 and bastardized the whole thing into a new table. What worked very effective for me was taking materials such as Corian and acrylic and separating them with druzy stones. I do have some cat eye in the mix also. It would not hurt to take a sheet of acrylic and a sheet of Corian clamp them together and drill a small hole through both plates. Do this in all four corners. Then remove the clamps and dimple the inside holes with a larger bit. Put four very small druzy beads in the dimples and drop the Top plate on the bottom plate. I find the mix of Corian which is slightly bright and acrylic which is pretty darn neutral if not slightly dull to equal a very Lively and clear sound. Rapping on my bottom sheet to my top plinth plate reveals there is pretty decent isolation. Just something you can try for very little money. All you need is a cabinet shop to cut you a piece of Corian and Tap Plastic to cut you the acrylic.20180910_094906.jpg

Installed a set of Herbie's Square Fat Dots yesterday between the maple block and the glass shelf. Like what I'm hearing so far, but I need to sit down and listen to some of my older vinyl to listen for the changes.

Size was a consideration, though many of the double width racks would have fit... No I do not play the sax. Found the lamp at a local consignment furniture store a friend of mine owns. He is always informing me when unique musical themed things show up and I thought it would be an interesting addition. Made from what was a functioning sax at some point in time and the keys all work so a lot of fun in the room.

I found that with my Adona rack, that my old VPI Scout, with the upgraded footers, sounded better without the maple block. Before I had the Adona rack, it sounded better on the maple block, on my previous rack.

Starting my new setup with my Origin Live Resolution 3 directly on the oversized Adona top platform. It has as much mass as the 3” maple platform I used previously. I will see how I like it. So far pretty pleased.
