Sorry this is long but I started back in October. The bottom line I have a Sony 75" XBR940d on the way.
I wanted at least an 8000 series Samsung, the same series I have in another room. My heart was set on going larger than 62 which was the TV being replaced. The 8000 series goes only to 65" but generally priced well. To get a 75" Samsung I'd have to go to a 9000 series and price goes from around $1600.00 for the 65" to $5495.00 for the 75" 9000. The 9000 did drop for Black Friday to $4999.00.
So a friend suggested getting a projector/screen, 92". So I wrestled with which way to go, decided on the projector/screen, getting the screen motorized to be out of the way when listening to music. So things get crazy, bids on screens from $328.00 to $3200.00. I wanted the JVC RS400u projector. Then my room is finished, the install would require some construction, which seemed to vary depending on who I talk to. One store I was going to buy the projector canceled my appointment to look at my room, I called to reschedule, left messages and still haven't heard from them. Needless to say they won't hear from me any more either. One guy shot a bid for both room treatment install and the projector, I canceled the room treatment and wanted just the projector but he still wanted the same price for labor...........
So back to TV, by now, Dec. the Samsung's are pretty much out of stock from places I buy from and the 75" jumped to $6495.00. In reading reviews, excluding OLED, the Samsung's seemed to rule over Sony & LG. It just happened that some how I ran across the review of the Sony XBR940d I don't know how I missed before, it had a great review in Tech Radar, the price dropped from $6k to $3800.00. I'm beat down, LOL So I jumped on it.
Once I decided to get a projector though I fell hard, it was disappointing not to have that dream workout. But, who knows by the time I need another TV maybe I'll be more willing to have some construction done and more options for installers. The thing is I had some water come in and do some damage not long ago, so the room is still freshly painted, new carpet etc. I just got my system back together not long ago.
