I have been waiting for this technology. I hope they have solved the stability problems. I'll be keeping an eye on info for these products. I look forward to see it.

That's exciting. Gotta' love the 55" screen that's only 38 lbs. With those prices I'll stick with my plasma for a few years. The only thing that bothers me is this: “thin transparent film speakers” are built into the TV’s stand.

Re: LG Introduces First OLED TV in the U.S.

Doug, with time prices will come down, weight will diminish, and there will be OLED monitors sans the speakers.
...And others where the speakers and connection box will be totally separated (in its on dedicated/separate box) from the OLED screen. ...Wireless too.
By roughly the year 2015, OLED, 4K will become the reach of many. ...Well, right now today you can buy an Ultra HD (4K) TV (50") for $999.

We should rejoice to be alive in these days and age.

I'm ready. My TV is a 2004 Hitachi 57" RPTV digital monitor (no tuner). Even with only 1080i, after calibration, it looks great with Bluray. Give me an 80" OLED monitor (no tuner, speakers, etc.) for $5K, or less, and it will be time to retire the Hitachi.

Re: LG Introduces First OLED TV in the U.S.

Before my Samsung plasma (1080p - 3D - 60"), me too I had an Hitachi RPTV (1080i - 50"). ...And the Samsung was $500 cheaper!

An 80" OLED (with 4K) would be awesome! ...And for less than five grands would make perfect sense in this world we live right now.

I still watch an old CRT most of the time (the ones that people seem to throw away). I'm behind the TV times - that's for sure.

Re: LG Introduces First OLED TV in the U.S.

I still have my Panasonic 31" GAOO TV (CRT tube - 480i). ...Very nice picture, with good contrast and black level.

BUT! I'm not watching it anymore; it's in my basement. ...It's been there since the return of Jesus on Earth!

    _________

Perhaps I should start a thread and ask the members here how many TVs all together they own in their home(s).
...And from all of them how many are active (plugged in, and that they watch once in a while).
    - Or anyone else interested please be my guest and start that 'new' thread. ...It's a fair question.

I'm waiting until the "TV on demand" matures. I would be happy to pay for shows I watch and subsequently, not pay for shows I don't. I need high speed Internet for work and I get a gazillion channels. I watch about 3 less than a gazillion.

I haven't a clue to be honest. I bought my current Sony from a magazine reviewer friend of mine for a crazy price. He calibrated it with his $20,000 machine - whatever that means. It replaced my old Panasonic my Dad gave me.

It over a year old and has less than 20 hours on it. I know...I know...

I'm thinking that flat screens are getting bigger and bigger and cheaper and cheaper and maybe (???) will replace projector/screens? Not sure.

Until I figure out the difference between a good black and a bad black, I'm going to remain lost in the world of video. Black looks black to me. My eyes are just so bad.

Haha, so do I, Mike! I have 2 CRTs, one is still just NTSC! And I think they're difficult to just get rid of nowadays, as you have to dispose the CRTs are certain way?

Bob, others, if I was looking for a large'ish flatscreen (55"-65"), what would you recommend? Light HT viewing. Heck, light viewing for that matter. Wait for 4K or OLED to come down in price, or get something readily available now?

Allen, nothing is stopping you of buying a 60" plasma HDTV (3D) tomorrow morning. ...Both Panasonic and Samsung have models for less than a grand!

Then, two or three years from now go all steam with OLED.

Re: LG Introduces First OLED TV in the U.S.

Back in 1986 I bought a 19" Sony Triniton color tv for $900 plus Canadian tax ($1,026 total at the time, without extended warranty).
Someone stole it from me! ...About five years ago.

Today you get a 60" 3D plasma from Panasonic or Samsung for less than what I paid for my Sony back then!
    ...That is simply amazing!

And I just saw an Ultra HD TV (4K), a 50" model, for only $999 (MSRP)! ...Comin' real soon to a store near you (September).

Re: LG Introduces First OLED TV in the U.S.

i tell you what i had a plasma 50" i bought it in like 2006 from dell. it was a dell brand. from what i understand dell stop selling their own brand tv's soon after because they had issues. well mine never had an issue, and damn if that wasnt the best picture on a tv i ever had.
i dont go in much for tv's. right now i have a sony bravia led. but that tv killed all others at the time, problem was it weighed ALOT . but everyone who ever saw it said "wow that tv's got a great picture" and it really did. i would definitely go back to plasma. although it did get burn in after a few years .same girl who stole my albums and guitars stole that tv too.
i would definitely check out those panasonic plasmas. hear nothing but good things about them.

Oh yeah Allen, plasma definitely. ...Look at the latest ST60 Series from Panasonic. ...And the Samsung equivalent; F5500 Series I believe.
They are both 3D (meaning that they excel at 2D), and have tons of great features (streaming and all). And of course their picture quality performance is above all the rest, except to their brothers from the top echelon. ...And you can get them in the 50 to 65" size. ...I would go with 60" if your budget is around the one thousand mark, and 65" if you can spread that a little more. ...The bigger the better.

Plasma is the way to go. Forget about LCD LED.

Then few years down the road, put the plasma in the kid's room, and get an OLED for the living room, or family room, or home theater room, or all of the above. Prices will be totally in line with your wallet, my wallet, and all of them regular wallets.

We only live once; might as well have a nice picture, and live stress-free till we exit the world for good. ...Then someone after us will inherit our happiness.

Allen, I started a thread here not that too long ago (April 14), about that Panasonic plasma ST60 Series; with a link containing a review, from c-net I believe.
Check it out; it should be in the Video section of the forums.
