My first tube rolling
Yesterday I received a EAT ECC803/12AX7 diamond cool valve. For my pre amp. It replaced a Philips ECC83 tube made in the USA. I think it’s a new production tube.
I don’t know if tubes not time to settle in. I do think that the EAT is a bit more quiet and a bit brighter.Pre amp: Ocatve Phono Module Power amps: Octave MRE130 Turntable: SAC Girati Grande. Re: My first tube rolling
I do think it is slowly getting better. The first few hours I was sort of disappointed. But now it seems it the new tube gives a more open detailed sound without changing the sound signature of my amps/system.
The EAT tubes are not cheap but thinking about buying two EAT Cool Valve ECC88/6DJ8. Or the far cheaper Genalex Gold Lion E88C tubes or Telefunken Black Diamond E88CC / 6922.Pre amp: Ocatve Phono Module Power amps: Octave MRE130 Turntable: SAC Girati Grande. Re: My first tube rolling
Funny back when I had the Octave I always found the first time I swapped out a different tube (new) and if I liked the sound I usually disliked it after they broke in. OTOH if I disliked the sound I usually loved it after break in.

If you are considering using any new old stock tubes, a good read is "Joe's Tube Lore". Just google it online.
While individual results can vary from his findings, you will at least get a basic handle on the sonic signatures of many of the older original tubes.
Enjoy and have fun with it.My System
