    My first tube rolling

Yesterday I received a EAT ECC803/12AX7 diamond cool valve. For my pre amp. It replaced a Philips ECC83 tube made in the USA. I think it’s a new production tube.

I don’t know if tubes not time to settle in. I do think that the EAT is a bit more quiet and a bit brighter.

Give tubes 30-50 hours of break in.

I do think it is slowly getting better. The first few hours I was sort of disappointed. But now it seems it the new tube gives a more open detailed sound without changing the sound signature of my amps/system.

The EAT tubes are not cheap but thinking about buying two EAT Cool Valve ECC88/6DJ8. Or the far cheaper Genalex Gold Lion E88C tubes or Telefunken Black Diamond E88CC / 6922.

Funny back when I had the Octave I always found the first time I swapped out a different tube (new) and if I liked the sound I usually disliked it after they broke in. OTOH if I disliked the sound I usually loved it after break in.

If you are considering using any new old stock tubes, a good read is "Joe's Tube Lore". Just google it online.
While individual results can vary from his findings, you will at least get a basic handle on the sonic signatures of many of the older original tubes.
Enjoy and have fun with it.

Which Octave did you have? and what tubes did you try.

I'd like a bit more "aggression" in the top end and the bass a bit better under control.
