I've been keeping an eye out for reviews on these things but I am not sure they've hit the market yet. It will be interesting to read people's experiences. At $200/tube these will probably be slow to come onto the market. I am very happy with my KT150s into the Volti Rivals... the perfect blend of weight, body, and presence with neutral mids and a buttery-smooth top end. I don't know how much more the 100dB Rivals could take! :D

A fellow on another forum put them in his amp and loves them, like going from kt120 to kt150 was a nice change before. My wife says they look like Weebles. I am eager to try them in my ARC Ref160m amps, but I won’t go first.

I remember how polarizing the look of the KT-150 was when it came out. These KT-170 look funny and weird compared to the 150’s. I’m excited that tube development continues. This is awesome news.

My understanding is they are NOT compatible with existing ARC designs. Don't try it. Nobody try it.

I have a friend who asked and received a response stating as such.

Damn. I guess we’ll have to get amps certified for the new tubes.

Hmm, I seem to remember the same thing was said initially about using KT150 in ARC units designed around KT120. After a time the tubes were ‘blessed’. With such a new tube, I am sure there are some liability issues dropping a new tube model into units under warranty. Until any issues have been sifted and sorted, I expect most mfg’s will discourage use.

So I remain optimistic. Time will tell. If they are not compatible is OK, the only reason I’d want to try them is my Wilson speakers don’t mind being fed more power at all.

Hmm,

My Quicksilver Monos were improved when they went to K-120s.

Now they are improved once again by K-150s.

Can't wait to hear what Mike Sanders says about the 170s!
