It has a Sony ND7E cart which I plan on changing.

You have a turntable? :)
I wouldn't spend a lot of money on it. What I would do is pop a Mono cartridge on it (assuming you listen to some older records). If not, I would advise spending the money on a VPI Classic (or similar) and a decent MC Cart which matches the phono input on your Dartzeel Preamp. I think you will really love vinyl with even a modest modern setup.

The good thing about turntables, is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get great results.

Just my two cents...

Mike

I think I bought it in '83. I'm trying to find the manual.

I am DEFINITELY going to get a modern TT. Apparently you know it before I did :)

Good....you will LOVE it. It becomes quite addictive. Sounds so much more natural. I'll buy you some more LP's and send them your way!

Cue evil laugh, Bwwwwwwwwaaaaa haaaaaaa. My plan is working.

Sorry to inject ..but before you toss what LOOKS like the cheapie style turntable because of the plastic plinth, you actually have a VERY GOOD table with BioTracer tonearm.

Here is an article on this - http://classichifi.info/Sony_PS-X600.htm

Be careful in what one thinks might be junk...you may be trhowing out what commends some good dollars. These go for between 300 and 500 bucks...

When you read the article you will see its not cheap plastic and its not a toy...

Your threads and the articles when I did some current research, made me re-think tossing it. There are some true fans of my Sony.

Glad you checked it out. I have not owned one myself but I do know the Sony fan base is huge. They made some pretty nice tables (though sometimes deceiving in looks) including some high end transcription tables with no arms and broadcast tables)

Joe, you got a cute turntable. ...It's worth what your heart feels about it. ...Other people's heart? Yeah, that too.

...Me too I still have my Sony TT; Linear Drive. :) ...And a Classic Pioneer* vintage one as well (Belt Drive). ...My third one, an older Akai modified (Direct Drive, fully Auto).

* The Pioneer TT is Manual, but I lost the manual.
