    Furutech Destat II

This thing really works to discharge static on LP's in our dry Colorado climate better than using a zerostat gun + grounding myself + carbon fiber brush!

I've been using the Furutech Destat II several different ways and it doesn't seem to matter how it's used, as long as it's used. Both the 10 second and 20 second operating time options work well to discharge unwanted static, but I have a feeling in our normally dry climate that the 20 second cycle will likely be my choice going forward.

    The methods I've tried are:
    1. Holding the record in my one hand and "waving" the Destat II (held in my other hand) over the LP in a circular fashion thru a cycle seems to work.
    2. Placing the record on the turntable, clamping it and then waving the Destat II over it thru a cycle while the platter is still/not moving seems to work.
    3. Placing the record on the turntable, clamping it and then starting the turntable spinning while holding the Destat II over it (motionless) thru it's cycle seems to work.

After each Destat II treatment I then run the carbon fiber brush over it as per normal and remove any (now) static-free & dislodged dust then play.

One caveat: I've only been using it for the past month or so and during this time period has been our "monsoon" season so we are a bit more moist than other times of the year. The true test will be how it works when we see our drier months and during the winter. I'll update this thread as our air moisture levels change toward the drier.

At this point though, this thing is a joy to use and has really helped to alleviate excess static in general. Other than a quieter play for a given LP after a treatment, there's also a minimum amount of static when lifting the record from the platter after play.

    +2

That and a tape eraser from vintage radio shack and that's all one needs (and I use a goat hair brush)

Read many positive reports about this product. May I ask what humidity levels are you fighting?

Melbourne seems to be just right & static is generally a non event, indoors 50-55% RHL.

I found this data on the town where I live: (from http://www.city-data.com)

Based on data reported by over 4,000 weather stations

edit: according to this chart, we are not as dry in autumn / winter months as I thought. That would make sense with the amount of snow we receive. Strange, because it sure feels dry around here in winter.
