Since joining up on the forum just this morning I’ve been looking through all the amazing and informative posts and conversations being discussed. I’ve realized that most of you are serious audiophiles with serious high end gear and a very intelligent approach to your music hobby! To be honest I’m feeling a big out of place. I’ll probably never be as educated or immersed, both emotionally or financially in the world of high end audio, but that would never deter my love for beautiful and well reproduced music! So, if you all don’t mind and can tolerate a stupid question once in a while I think I’ll stick around for a bit!! :-)

There are no stupid questions. It's stupid to NOT ask a question. Don't worry. Like Jack says, we all had to start somewhere and we are glad you are here. Please don't be shy.

Definitely glad you’re here. The more the merrier.

Welcome - as noted everyone has to start at some point. The best place to be when one is looking at audio equipment is one where you have good information to make an informed decision based on your needs and budget.

As was already said, we all started somewhere. When I jumped back into this crazy hobby about 4 years ago, after a 20+ year absence, I had to re-learn most of this again. It had changed so much in those years.

You will find that the people on this forum are the most helpful; they have never made me feel dumb when I have asked questions. It is also the most drama free and friendly people you will ever encounter in an audio forum.

If you enjoy music, you'll be fine.
If you enjoy equipment, you'll be fine also.

cheers,

AJ

You are exactly in the Right Place.

This is the best forum going to learn, share, and have fun.

You are not alone in owning "lower end" gear. I have plenty of it. I was very lucky to have the system in my sig fall into my hands years ago for a steal. But it's all about enjoying the music and the moment and you don't need a $100K setup to do that.

The one thing you will get out of this place is an endless wish list of gear you want to hear or own. I am up to several million worth of gear I would like to have just from hanging out here.

Just ask away and participate where you want to, it's all good and nobody here thinks lesser of the next guy and that is why it is the best place to hang.

Cheers and enjoy the ride!

Welcome, this is a great place to ask questions and learn as everyone here is friendly and knowledgeable. I have learned a great deal since joining and have found some great equipment and music recommendations. I even made a local friend that I get together with.

This is a great time to be into audio. You do not need to spend tens's of thousands of dollars on gear to get very good sound.

Just make sure you ask the “right” question otherwise be prepared to get your rear handed to you is all I’ll say!

Ok just screwing around. You’re at the right place. Ask away. Lots of knowledgeable and friendly people in these shark-infested waters [emoji106]

Definitely have the Shark confused with some other forum (I probably could guess which one, but don't want to cause waves) :D

Just playin with ya :P

welcome EZ Goin.

this is a great place, and I, too, started at the beginning. i may say if you are careful, you can assemble a GREAT system at a reasonable price.it does not cost anything to read and learn!! you can get a subscription to Stereophile, the absolute sound, etc. and lots of information is FREE on line! i have been SLOWLY upgrading my system, as i can afford it. you can think about CD players, turntables, tuners, music streamers, etc. Mike Bovaird, who runs this forum, has always been super great and honest with me. jim dandy has also, and knows a ton about equipment. you can read the complete guide to high end audio by robert harley, get better sound by jim smith. my advice is to read and learn, before upgrading your system. you can even borrow music CD's for free at the library! most of the people here have been very helpful to me, and polite!
best,
bob:hey:

Thanks for all of the encouragement and reassurance that I won’t be shunned!! 😉. We’ve probably all been a part of owners forums inundated with trolls lurking in front of keyboards in their mom’s dark basement just itching for the chance to feel better about their sad life by finding opportunities to belittle others! Ha ha!

I look firward to learning more about the hobby and hope to start by learning how to pronounce the names of some of the equipment being discussed!! Cheers!

Tell us about your current gear. It is always fun to see what gear people have whether high end or not. I have several systems in my house, some high end and others extreme budget and I get enjoyment for all of them.

Same here, I have 5 different systems available from my sig system to my PC desk setup.

EZ, welcome ........ no worries, for it's far more important spend your $$ wisely than to just spend $$ !

Until now, my emphasis has always been more on home theater than pure audiophile 2 channel music, but I find myself more and more enamored with clear beautifully detailed and precise music. Hence my appearance on this forum. So, for the most part I have put my energy into decent video/audio applications. My gear as of now consists of:

Bedroom: Denon AVR 4308, SVS Prime Satellites front left/right, SVS Prime center channel, and Polk Audio rears, Goldenear Forcefield 4 sub with a Panasonic Blu-ray player and Denon iPod dock.

Living Room: (2 channel) Peachtree Nova300 (just received to replace old Denon AVR 5800), Audio Technica AT-LP5 direct drive MM turntable, old Marantz CC4003 CD player, Marantz IS301DS Bluetooth iPod dock, and Definitive Technology BP7004 speakers. Also have Definitive Technology sound bar with sub for TV.

Family Room: Onkyo AVR receiver (model escapes me right now), Def Tech Mythos all around for 5.1 with SVS SB12 NSD sub and Panasonic 4K player and Onkyo iPod dock.

Theater Room: Yamaha RX- A3070 receiver, Oppo UDP 205 4K player, Epson 5040UB projector, SVS Ultra Towers and Ultra Center up front, SVS Prime Satellites back surrounds, SVS Prime Elevations for heights, Paradigm Titon rear surrounds, and two SVS SB16 Ultra subs.

Like I said, focused on Audio/video, but I hope the Peachtree will go some to bring my 2 channel system up a notch or two. I plan to replace the Def Tech 7004's as soon as I find something I can afford that makes a significant improvement over the Def Techs.
