WSJ: Japanese Audiophiles

Thx for posting Mike. I read WSJ daily and missed this piece.

i don't think I would go the extremes highlighted in the video - my own power pole or no space to live but one heck of a stereo or no new clothes for 15 yrs.

However, if they are happy, that's fantastic!

A buddy of mine worked with several engineers and execs from Sony several years ago. He tells the story of going over to their house and watching as they lugged car batteries up from the basement to power their listening session for the evening.

I no longer feel so crazy about my audio participation level. At least I can open my refrigerator without moving the couch.

I put my refrigerator in the garage to lower the inside ambient noise level. Works great, and frees up space in the kitchen. :)

I was expecting a picture of someone sitting in a sanitarium.
Don't seem to recall Queen insisting on non-blood-infected pure electricity at their concerts or even in the recording studio, but hey...

Now if someone could tell this guy that there might be a little something getting between him and the music other than a pure power electrical pole:

Wonder if he waters his ground connection.

Yes, with a special water from high in the Himalayas and blessed by 4 blind monks. Proven to maximize negative ion transfer.

I wonder if some people obsess so much over equipment they miss the music.

If gentleman in Japan was a real audiophile he wouldn't have a refrigerator just the couch. Introduces way too much noise into electrical system. Put the stuff on ice in a cooler or the bathtub.
