Why Do I Own This?

Respectfully, some people don't enjoy live music. And not everyone enjoys jazz and female vocalists so I wouldn’t expect the entire world to show up at a venue. As I stated earlier, it’s a matter of taste … Some people like jazz, others prefer rap, etc. And some aren't trained listeners, so they don't understand the beauty of what they are hearing, et. al.

Diana Krall has sung / played with the likes of Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and Paul McCartney. She's won 24 awards from 50 nominations. I guess all these professionals are deaf too? :hey:

List of awards and nominations received by Diana Krall - Wikipedia

As I stated earlier, Krall has sold over 16 million albums. The numbers don't lie - she's talented. While not the greatest amount of albums sold by any artist (Beatles, 183 mil, etc.), over 16,000,000 albums is still a lot. While you and some others don't, it is clear that some individuals appreciate and enjoy her musical abilities.

Let’s put 16 million into a little perspective. I remember reading about a guy who merely counted to 1 million. He counted app. 16 hours per day. 89 days later he reached his goal of 1 million.

So, you may get some perspective on just how many 16 mil is why don’t you begin counting right now. Then you may come back here in app. 3.9 years with a little more perspective of just how popular and talented Diana Krall really is! Of course, by then you may have to add a couple more million albums sold. Happy counting …

Just because a person sells a lot of records doesn't make them a good singer . Take rappers that sing about violence . Ex Lil Wayne has sold over 120 million records worldwide. Talent doesn't equal record sells. Its people that like that type of music.

Talent is in the eye / ear of the beholder. I hate RAP. However, others love it and to them those artists have talent and so they purchase their records. So, records sold does relate to talent.

I’m not worried about Krall’s talent. It’s been recognized by likes of Tony Bennett, Ray Charles and Paul McCartney. She's won 24 awards from 50 nominations. Anyone who believes Krall is without talent doesn’t know how to listen.

Disliking someone’s albums is one thing, but it is quit another to say they don’t have any talent.

it was probably because Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Dinah Washington, Shirley Horn, Anita O'Day, Helen Merrill et al, weren't available :) and so what if DK sold 16 million records. The Monkeys sold 75 million, by your reckoning that would make them one of the greatest rock groups of all time. LOL

In all seriousness, DK will go down as the last standing female jazz singer of the late '90s when Jazz music was on life support. The same goes for PB.

Agree. But Talent is also in the eye of the beholder, you either like it or you don't. And I'm not saying she doesn't have talent, maybe you are just addressing other post, as my wife have seen her more than once. .

Thank you for your perspective, "Clueless" in California. But Tony Bennett and Diana Krall have been friends over 20 years. “Verve Label Group President and CEO, remarked, “Tony And Diana performing the music of George and Ira Gershwin at the legendary Rainbow Room in New York City exemplifies the classic standing and timeless legacy of these two amazing artists. As Tony has always said, ‘Quality never goes out of style …and Tony and Diana are proof positive of that statement.'”” And she worked with Paul MacCarney on his album, “Kisses on the Bottom” and he gave her one his songs entitled, "If I Take You Home Tonight.” So, they had a good working relationship for some years. Thus, your statement is without any warrant.

Sorry, but I interpreted your statement - “Just because a person sells a lot of records doesn't make them a good singer .” - as being someone without talent, as you followed it with a rap example and then said, “Talent doesn't equal record sells.”

But I agree you either like someone or you don’t. As I’ve repeatedly stated, it’s a matter of taste. And as I stated in post 34 - “ It’s ok to have different tastes in music.”

You guys talking about Live In Paris got me wanting to listen to it 😁, so I just put it on.... 45 RPM version. Simply wonderful!

Admittedly that’s one of my absolute favorites. I haven’t heard it on vinyl yet, but the CD is tremendous ....
