Looking to buy a 103 but want to make sure the new models aren't around the corner.

Thank you.

Good question Sean. The 103D/105D are strong universal BD players (DAC/preamp/headphone amp for the 105D).

What is missing? ...HDMI version 2.0! ...4K content is almost non-existent. Summer is starting today, fall is usually Oppo time.

My guess (but I could be wrong): Not for another year.

By the way, you can get the 103 refurb directly from Oppo with free shipping for $399. ...Full warranty.
And the 103D (Darbee video enhancer latest model) refurb for $499.
- You save hundred bucks either way.

___________

* The 113D and 115D (if they are named that) would be for 2015 (fall). But that's only my guess.

<<>> There is an anticipation thread over at AVS and that Oppo is monitoring now for several months, regarding what people want in their next Oppo players. If you check it out it would take the same time for me to give you that link...
That thread was especially created for people like you, I, and all Oppo customers. There is simply no better way to construct the electronics people demand. This is beyond great customer service; it is total valuable dedication.

I sell Oppo and I haven't heard anything about an update for the 103, beyond the 103D. The standard 105 has just been discontinued though, only the 105D available now.
Who knows though, they may spring it on us!
I have a standard 103 and you really can't go wrong with them, they're great machines.

Neil...I have an older 83SE which I have hardly used (the occasional Bluray and SACD but that's about it) but somebody mentioned on another site that the 83SE has a history of issues with the CD drive and the PSU (which I have not experienced) but was just curious if you knew any more specifics on this. Thanks.

Hi Cyril,

I am not aware of any endemic failures with 83SEs. It is possible I have just been lucky though, but IME Oppo stuff is very reliable.

Yep I agree, Oppo is the only av brand we sell, and I am far from an expert on them.

Thanks guys. Not too worried about it as I have not experienced any problems with it and as I said I only using it sparingly, mostly to watch an occasional Bluray/DVD and even less frequently an SACD here and there.

Bob...I appreciate it :D

Doug...I see the EMT is in the avatar. Have you purchased it yet or it's going to happen soon?

I don't think there's much advances in video after the introduction of the 105/105D to release a newer machine. 4K/UHD standard is barely finalized.

I talked to OPPO quite awhile ago with the same concerns as the OP.
They said they were working diligently on the 4K & it would be at least late 2016 for all R & D & testing to be finalized. So buy that 105 D now & enjoy!
