What a Bummer - Hurriance Matthew

Dan...good to hear that your area has not been hit that hard. Good luck to all Floridians and neighboring states likely to still get hit by Mathew. Keeping our fingers crossed for all you folks.

Wow, finally got power on Tuesday at 5:05 and the internet, phone & TV at 6:01 Man were we lucky living this close to the ocean. We were asked to evac and we headed to Ocala Thursday at 8am. We had our house about as secure as one can get, pictures off the walls, stuff away from the windows, visqueen and sandbags on the doors we loaded up two vehicles with my camera equipment my guitars, expensive pictures, personal papers, house documents, guns, flood and insurance all paid (check) and loaded up in my SUV and then got the cat all cozy in the wife Lexus and off we went. We were notified Sunday we could return and arrived to find our nice oak on the road, a water line on the sandbags at the front double doors and 6" water line on the garage door and a water line that encompassed the complete section of our road, no land was spared getting dunked in at least a foot or more of water. If it wasn't for the visqueen and sandbags on the interior door from the garage into the house we would of had water inside the house. A few brave nuts stayed on our road and got to see from the second story windows a wall of water when the dunes were breached by the Hurricane. These neighbors ended up with a foot of water in their home. The road behind our house had 4 ft of water on it when the dunes were breached. The swell behind our homes kept a lot of the water at bay not to mention the elevation of our home. So its yard clean up, wait on the tree removal services and also our fence is blown over and that is waiting for a replacement.

Chris.......Relieved to hear from you and that your home was spared any catastrophic damage. It's good the oak fell the way it did and that you did preventative measures to minimize water intrusion. Hopefully you and your neighbors will be back to normal in the near future.
