...Placed the first of two orders for my new audio system. Ordered the Harbeth Super HL 5+ 40th Anniversary Edition speakers, along with cables and stands. I know there are still a few of the 40th Anniversary Harbeths out there but we were having some difficulty finding the walnut veneer version. Harbeth is making me brand new walnut veneer versions as we speak, fresh out of the "speaker making machine." Could take a month or two.

That's just fine with me as I'm not placing the second order until Jan. 2, my birthday. I was right in placing the Harbeth order now as they are a limited production item. I could still have gotten the limited production models but finding them in the walnut veneer was becoming a challenge.

The second order will likely include a Luxman 509x integrated amp, Lumin D2, and Roon Nucleus along with any more necessary cables that I might need. As mentioned in earlier threads, another reason I'm dividing the order between this year and next is for tax reasons since the money is coming from my pension.

Ninety five percent of my listening will be digital, although I have a late '80s/early '90s Technics direct drive automatic turntable (DD33) in mint condition that has been gathering dust in my basement store room. It was given to me by my sister after the sudden death of my brother-in-law several years ago. I plan on trying it out after I have it checked and serviced as necessary. Now, if I can just figure out a way to keep myself occupied for the next seven months...

Congratulations BGP Your system should sound heavenly.

If you are anything like me you will be getting more sleep now instead of lying in bed at night trying to determine if you are making the right decision.

Happy patient waiting. :-)

Thank you, guys for the kind comments. I forgot to mention, the two Mikes at Suncoast Audio were wonderful to deal with. I highly recommend them. To say they are knowledgeable and helpful would be a huge understatement.

Yeah, Brad, I did lose some sleep over making the right decisions. There are literally countless choices in components. I was really having to get my high end audio knowledge base up to speed in a hurry. And I still have a very long way to go to even begin to feel truly confident about my knowledge of high end audio. But the learning part sure is fun.

Congrats Tom! This will be an amazingly musical system in your room. Now the difficult part: what’s going to be the first song you play?

Mike, I know it might not excite others but it will likely be something from one of my favorite bluegrass bands. Although I also like small combo and big band jazz.

Congratz... sounds like a wonderful start to your system... I know I would have a hard time having a new speaker sitting there and not being able to listen to them.... you are far more patient then I am sir :D...

Congrats Tom, glad to see that you finally got your feet wet! :hey:

I wish you and your wife many years of listening pleasure.

Congrats! Harbeths are great for small ensemble jazz.
