Hello All,

I have a VPI Scoutmaster 2 with the Classic platter. I'm debating either upgrading the table itself to another VPI or purchasing a new TT to replace it. In this specific case, I'm going keep the conversation towards the table itself and not around the cartridge.

The VPI tables I am considering are the Prime Signature and Classic Signature if it is still available.

Any thoughts from the forum members? Keep the SM but , install a 10 inch 3D arm etc... or buy a new table with the arm already and better feet already installed?

Do these newer VPI turntables have much better plinths than existing SM?

Thank you

I have a Classic 3. I can't tell you if it is better than VPI Scoutmaster 2.
But I can say : Classic 3 is a very good turntable. I have choose ART-9 cartridge.

Scoutmaster with a Classic platter is a legitamate alternative to the Classic. Put a 3D tone arm with a second pivot and you'll be real happy. A serious upgrade is to replace the stock feet with "Bearpaws"... (Very large screw on cones)

While I think VPI makes great turntables. I use to own a VPI Scout. I personally think Dr Feickert is better value for money. A Dr Feikert with a 12" Jelco arm is hard to beat dollar for dollar.
