Ya, know? I love both my JBLs and my Strads. I have a few others to play with, but no desire at the moment to jump into anything new.

Kudos to the MFG site for posting the prices. They look real nice, would love to hear them with a little SoundQuest integrated.
you must not go to shows much
all you hear is "these speakers are ONLY $20,000" (or GREAT VALUE at 30k or 60k or whatever) its like we're using monopoly money. The Rivals in rosewood at $12K is comparable to Devore 0/96 for the same cost, on paper Volti looks to give you more.

To make a pair of Volti Audio Rival grills, I first start by cutting 1/2" plywood to size. Then the first routering job is to remove the inside area, leaving the outer frame. This is done with a jig and a router. The next step is to use another jig and router the outside corner curves. Next step is to router the round-over edge on the outside of the frame. Next step is to router the round-over edge on the inside of the frame (outer). Next step is to router the rabbet on the inside of the frame (inner - this is where the cloth is turned down into and stapled). Next step is to drill the holes in the back of the frame for the grill pins. Next step is to sand the frames and fix any chipouts or issues with the routering. Next step is to prime the frames, then sand, then paint. Next step is to install the grill cloth. Next step is to install the grill pins in the backs of the grill frames. Next step is to drill out the fronts of the cabinets to accept the grill pin receivers and install those. Lastly, an add-on for the crates needs to be built so the grills can be shipped with the speakers.
All of this work requires a fairly high level of craftsmanship - just imagine making a mistake drilling out the fronts of rosewood cabinets!
It takes me 7 shop-hours to complete a set of Rival grills, which at my very reasonable $60 per hour rate is $420, plus materials = the $500 price.
If I were producing a product by the hundreds or thousands, of course it could be done cheaper.
There is such a thing as "honest ignorance", which was on display here in this thread. Why should most people have any idea what goes into building a product like the Rival? Or running a business like Volti Audio? In a world of $59 microwave ovens thrown in a trash pile every three years, I don't really expect people to have a clue about the process and cost of making a pair of grills.
