In my quest to get a valve amp that i like the sound of, i bought home the baby Viva Solistino SET today.

I honestly thought it wouldnt do much in my system as it puts out a meagre 15 watts (i think - no one really knows and the Viva website is useless) and i have Coltrane 3's. But i listen in a small room and quite close.

Well I'm very surprised. The baby Viva is no baby, its enormous and heavy and runs very very hot. And even though this model is only 20 hours old it sounds quite fabulous. Glorious vocals, amazing separation of musical layers and textures. And most surprising, plenty loud enough. Im listening with the volume dial at around 7 or 8 o'clock.

So it begs the question, would there be a benefit moving to a Solista?

Or, which is the main reason i wanted to bring this home, would the Lamm ML2.1 be an improvement? Ive now sorted the question of 18 watts.

Still got a couple more amps to try but at least now i can make some informed decisions.

While I am not familiar with the amps you are referring to, I can state with certainty that all WATTS are not created equally. While this 18 watt amp might work well, another amp of the some or greater wattage may not work.
There are many reasons, impedance, current/voltage issues ETC ETC.
You are wise to ask others with experience on the products you have concerning the synergy with other components.
Like you have done, audition with your gear is the only true test.
Good luck with your search.

Mike, apart from increased power, do the separates bring anything more to the table over the Solista or the Solistino?
