Someone posted some pics in another thread of their White on White Vinnie Rossie Lio. Such a good looking pc of gear in white. I started reading about their “PURE-DC-4EVER” power stage and although not highly electrically skilled, this concept is interesting.

Do we have more than one member running this gear? I would like to hear more about it. I was wondering, since there are 2 separate DC power banks, and only one is ever in use, how does it seamlessly switch between the two when one bank loses it's charge? Can you tell in the middle of a song when it switches from the used bank to the newly charged bank?

The other thing that caught my interest was in the FAQ section with the question on Power Conditioning and After Market Power Cables. This approach they have would seem to save people lots of money not needing to spend sums on conditioning and cables. I guess on the flip side it will deter the folks that just love buying extra cables.

It would seem that the LIO integrated may not be powerful enough for speakers not so efficient, but as a Pre with the VR120 it looks to be a contender. Maybe like the 2 PASS Ints, they should consider just housing the 120 amp as another integrated option??

Thoughts?

Shadow, I heard the Lio with Harbeth speakers at Axpona 2 years ago and it was one of the top sounding rooms. I came away very impressed. It has a very organic and natural, easy sound. You cannot hear any switching noise. The Lio at 45wpc powered the inefficient Harbeth's with no problem. I would love to sell all my gear and buy a complete Vinnie Rossi system sometime in the future although I am getting ready to upgrade my Pass X250 to a 250.5 amp. I am not quite ready to give up my Magnepans and brute force power.

There is a large VR following on the AC forum.

I have had a DC4ever in my system now for around 3 weeks. I have the 12v version and use it to power my SOtM sms-200. I have tried a variety of PSU's to power various 'devices' (F.Zappa) including the Uptone LPS-1 and the system is sounding fantastic.

Haven't heard the LIO Pre but it should be fantastic from what I read. Yes, the Ultracap based power supply should eliminate the need for power cord. The DHT upgrade should also be excellent but as a pre it pushes the price close to 10k where there are other contenders (Vac Renaissance ?). Also, if you run all balanced then perhaps you would need to switch to single ended. Recently, Vinnie opened his own sponsored forum in CA - so you would have more user feedback.

I have a good friend who loves his LIO DHT preamp - he did not like the separate amplifier though. Vinni is a great guy to chat with at shows - one of the good people in this industry.

Bruce and I heard Vinnie's gear driving Volti Vittora's at one of the trade shows. It was unbelievably wonderful. Just a perfect combo with Triode Wire Labs cabling. We obsessed about that system for a long time and still consider it as perfect retirement system to get off the roller coaster.

Joe, your last sentence is exactly what I was thinking. Learning lots over at AC right from Vinnie's posts. Looks like speaker pairing will not be real dificult if not intending on Concert Level sound.

Just like anything else, balance is the key. I have to be honest, I absolutely love my Triode Labs 845 amps but they are a little noisy with a little tube rush (or whatever it's called) but my Ayre gear is dead silent. I need/want/love quiet backgrounds. The Vinnie Rossi combo, even with the Volti's was DEAD QUIET, and I love that. Beautiful music flowed from thin air and was so enjoyable. Vinnie's gear has been successfully paired with a lot of gear, so you should not have any problem system matching.

My thoughts exactly when I heard his gear! And its an all in one system if your can live with the 45 wpc and don't need the extra watts. Just one piece of electronics, 2 speaker wires and thats it!

I am running a LIO with the DHT Pre with KEF LS50 speakers (and Triode Labs Wire). Source is Line Magnetic 515 cd player. It's pretty magical. I will someday try Harbeth Monitor 30.1s with the LIO too...but I have a hard time unhooking the KEFs because they really sing with the LIO. Vinnie's customer service is also incredible. Highly recommended. -Margot
