anyone have experience with this stand-mount bass horn loudspeaker or with viking acoustics?

the few reviews and other on-line comments are quite positive but would really like to get other opinions here, both for this particular speaker as well as the speaker type. thanks!

Can't say I have come across them but they really interest me from a first glance in speakers & specs.

thanks. the designer describes them as :

horn loading is a non-compression set up. the horn augments the 10" AlNiCo woofer while at the same time has our new tweeter loaded in the horn with an air gap... both bass and high freq emit from the horn. if you're playing tracks with big bass you can feel the air and bass come out of the horn. The lower part of the horn also augments bass on the outer part of the horn. The internal damper /resonator further helps with lightning fast, tectonic bass... it is not a bright sounding speaker, it's bass-strong and neutral, it has absolutely nothing to do with other horns and its typography is totally different.

97 Db sensitivity, LF down to 28 Hz, smallish form factor and other specs check a lot of boxes.

other contender is voxativ zeth w/ AC-Pi-Fe driver upgrade: floorstander w/ 100 Db sensitivity, 20-20,000 Hz

Voxativ I definitely know, they have been reviewed quite favorably.

viking acoustics will be at RMAF demo'ing their speakers and amps -- i highly encourage anyone interested to check them out.

I'm on my third pair now of dc10audio/Viking speakers. How do you like your Berlin R Mk-II's?

third pair! that's quite an endorsement. what has been your model progression?

mine just arrived two days ago:

first off... these are beautifully made loudspeakers. the materials, craftsmanship + built quality, fit-and-finish, etc. are astounding -- just off the charts, 11 out of 10.

in terms of sound... still in the set-up, placement, etc. phase and only have about 5 hours listening so far. initial impression is wow, after run-in these could be slap-your-granny good !!

i will post further thoughts on all aspects after the indicated 40 or so hours of run-in.

I started off with the wide body Briton II. I bought these without hearing them after they got great press at RMAF 2013. I then moved to a much smaller dedicated music room and these beasts were too powerful for it. I had never heard such thunderous quality bass before, let alone out of a stand mount. This model is no longer available. I believe it had something to do with not being able to source the wood anymore to make the large one piece horns. Next was the Briton Studio Monitor, which is a 3-way version with a smaller horn. While still a large stand mount these integrated into my smaller room better. David then came out with a nearfield specific Briton Hybrid which is a smaller speaker, 10" driver, and his "Acoustic Lens" instead of the horn. I went all in with these as far as upgrades go, AlNiCo drivers (same woofer as your Mk-II), silver wiring, silver binding posts, and some large custom RIKE caps. These are outstanding for nearfield listening! I would say all three had their house sound, which for me is very dimensional, big sound stage, and really good bass. I've always driven them with low power tube amps from Shindo and Allnic.

From my experience you will benefit a lot by letting them run in, even more than 40hrs. I would say they keep getting better up to about 100hrs. Which wood combination and stands did you get? Would love to see some pictures!

~100 hrs sounds good for a complete run-in. the 10" driver is very "stiff" here in the early going.

in homage to my almarro amp from japan, i went for cherry cabinets + baffle and maple with a cherry throat for the horns. at least initially, i went without the stands. i have a quite nice pair and, if necessary, can order larger top and bottom plates with wider spacing for the uprights to fit the berlin.

Those look really good! I like the lighter horns with the similarly colored driver. I have cherry baffles on my pair now too. Their woodwork is some of the best without a doubt. So natural looking, which fits the sound that comes out of them.
