Vandersteen treo ct need advice
Hello I'm probably going to purchase the treo ct to replace my 3.0 Theil ( yes > 30 yr old) My amp & pre amp is Tandberg 30008 A & 30006 A again > 30 yrs old ( 150 watts at 8 ohm) Am I doing an injustice to the treos or do I need new equipment........................... I am considering the new Rotel 1590 MK II & 1582 II are these up to the quality of the treos?

I'm a CD guy about 2,000 all classical and stream Tidal using my i pad wired to a rotel dac rdd 1580

I need a pre or integrated amp with a tone control due to a benign tumor in my R ear which distorts high so I tone them down a small amt. NO getting around this ( acoustic neuroma .... treat it & loose all hearing on R)

thanks dli

Some of the Rotel amps are very nice, sorry I can't quote model numbers and stuff. Just buy what you can afford, it might turn out to sound awesome. And yes, some of the newer stuff from highly regarded manufacturers (more money) will likely sound better. I would not keep 30 year old equipment around, but that's just me. Other folks might have different thoughts on this. To tone down the highs a bit you can purchase felt rings that go around the tweeters, this might allow you to run a pre or integrated without tone controls or if you do have tone controls allow you to bypass the tone controls all together. Good luck.

The latest series of Rotel gear is pretty good. I moved from a CD 1072 to the latest 1572 and it was a big jump.

If you have a bigger budget, the newer Luxman Ints are great. You can maybe find a 505uxii for a good deal or new from Mike here at Suncoast. I love mine.

I stream thru my OPPO, but mostly Pandora and some FLAC files when I do. The Luman is worth a listen and another league over the Rotel.

Good idea I have a rotel DAC that I could stream through .
Have you heard the Vandersteen treo CT is up to the quality of the Luxman ?

thanks again

Vandersteens sound nice with zero feedback designs. I would consult a Vandersteen dealer, they will know the best pairings and a good one will give you honest feedback on your Tandberg electronics.

I have an extra set of those felt tweeter rings I will give to you if it will help. You might want to look inside of your Tandberg gear and see if a capacitor bulging or anything. I had an older Carver amp in the 90's that I opened up and it had a bunch of dust and stuff inside. I cleaned most of it out with a dry paint brush and it blew up the second I turned it back on....lol. Good luck.

thank you I think time for new stay well

I had a Carver integ. amp great You old enough to remember the wild interesting Carver Audio Challenge ? I still use a Carver FM tuner (remember them?) when too lazy to stream from i pad to Rotel DAC

I do remember Bob Carver and the famous audio challenge, it was a very entertaining time in audio and is a very entertaining read now. For a long time I had a TFM-25 power amp and a Carver preamp/tuner. The amp was nice but the preamp/tuner was junk, the power supply was the size of a walnut. There are some nice amps on Audiogon for about your budget you might want to consider. Any amp by David Belles (also Power Modules) is a good choice. Good luck.

Welcome to AS.

I am not enthusiastic about Rotel, not a brand I'd personally use, subjective my opinion. I just do not enjoy their house sound. I actually prefer their Class D amps over the A/B.

The Vandies are a decent selection considering your issue with the ear. You want to be sure to have more than enough power and low distortion for an amp.

My favorite set up with Vandies was when driven by Audio Research. McIntosh has a number of integrated amps and I believe have bass/treble. I don't think the ARC integrated does.

I recommend adding a streamer, maybe Blue Sound Node or Pro-Ject Streambox on the reasonable end, they connect to internet then you control them with your iPad via the ap. Much nicer than the iPad being wired to something.

Common integrated match ups with Vandersteen are Ayre, Aesthetix and Belles. I owned Treo CT's for a bit and they do like power as their tested efficiency is good deal below what is advertised.
